I intend to use hollow point ammo in this pistol, as it will be used for hunting small game varmints at less than 25 yards.
Please, no .22 rimfire suggestions, as I've owned them and don't care for the lack of power....compared to a centerfire pistol. :)

So far, this is what I've narrowed my choices down to, in 9mm.
CZ 85 Combat, Taurus 99B-17 and Springfield XD Tactical.
My criteria is accuracy, relibility and cost....in that order.

Your opinions and experiences are appreciated.
Thank you, Bowhunter57

You won't go wrong with any of those choices. I have all those you have listed (except my XD is a .45 and my CZ is the 75) and all perform VERY well.

From a price perspective, I suspect the Taurus will be cheapest, followed by the CZ (unless you opt for stainless which brought mine up to the same price as the XD), then the XD.

You may want to hold out for the XDM which should be coming out in 9mm very soon (19+1 rounds!). I saw late Sept posted on the XD forums. Didn't see any official announcement though.

All are perfectly reliable, so there is no difference there.

The CZ and XD are probably a bit more accurate than the Taurus, though I shoot action, so all are accurate enough for me (i.e. I don't know how accurate they truly can be)

So, don't sweat it. Which ever one you get will make a fantastic shooter. Go for the one that feels best in your hands.

Of the three, go with the CZ. My CZ 40B has been flawless for the last 1500 rounds. The 40b shares most of the internals with the cz 75/85's.

From your list?.....CZ 75. The standard all steel model is in my opinion still the best CZ. It has the best balance, handling, and recoil management.

I also suggest that you take a look at the Sig P226. It has about the same accuracy as the CZ(which is VERY good), has a shorter DA/SA trigger, and is a little more polished.

I have a CZ 75B in stainless over 3,000 rounds and no failures, that is impressive to say the least.
I also have the CZ 75 D PCR with almost 2,000 rounds and the same senario, both are very accuate.
Great guns, both 9mm.

If my new Witness Match in 38 super does the same,I will be happy.

Thank you, for all the replies! :)

I'm always hearing great reviews about the CZ models. I have yet to handle one, but want to do so. I may check with my local gun shop to see if they have any used models that I can shoot at their indoor range. :D

I've shot an XD, but it was in 45acp and it handled very well. Low felt recoil, quick recovery time for follow up shots and if felt good in my hands. I would imagine a 9mm would be even better.

Does anyone suggest the fixed sights over an adjustable sight model? The only reason that I was going with the 85 Combat was for the adjustable sights. Brownells has adjustable sights for the CZ, but they're around $70, plus S&H.

Good hunting, Bowhunter57

Browning HPMKIII, or HK P7PSP. The latter may be small, but they are scary accurate!

for what it is worth. i have never had a cz in my hands, so i can't comment on them. but i can comment on the taurus's. if you buy one of these, you will probably (80% chance) have to adjust the sights. and, you may have to replace at least one of them to get it to shoot accurately enough to kill small game with. both of our taurus'e had to be adjusted for windage, and need a different front sight to get the poi corrected (they both shoot low). but, they are both stone dead reliable. which is nothing to sneeze at. just my experience.

The CZ75 will be, by far, the most accurate of your choices.

In fact, short of a Sig P210 or something very high end like that, I don't think that there is a more acccurate 9mm pistol out there.

The first time I tried a CZ75 I tore out the bullseye at 15 yards.
