I own Taurus 99B-17 and its not one of my favs. I also own a cz-70 .32 cal. it jams alot but not sure if that has anyhting to do with the CZ 85 Combat. I have heard alot of good things about the Springfield as far as reliability and accuracy. also it has the rail so you can add any tac acc. crimson trace and laser max both make lasers for it. It also has the safety trigger like the Glock and the grip like the 1911. out of the 3 I like the springfield

The one other thing to really consider, if all others remain relatively the same, is how it fits in your hand. I have wanted to like CZs, even in their smaller variations, but they are just too long a reach for the double action trigger for me.

XD, handles nicely. The Taurus I have not handled so can't comment.

They'd all probably do what you want. So look at how they shoot, if you can rent them, how they feel, and how much they cost (if that's a consideration).

I notice you are in Ohio.
Now I know this is an auto-loader section and I prefer them myself...but; Since you are in Ohio, have you considered a .357 revolver?
That way you could use .38 Specials for your varmint needs and .357 Magnums for deer hunting.
BTW- You guys apparently have bigger varmints up around Toledo than we do in Columbus :)

jackstinson,
I have owned several .357 Mag. revolvers over the years and they're a good choice for anything. However, I'm interested in accomplishing the same task with a semi-auto. ;)
Yes, the coyotes are...or seem to be larger here. I shot my first coyote with a bow and it was a male weighing in at an even #40.

Butter,
I totally agree with your logic. :) I've not handled any CZ pistols and may be turned against them after I do....or for them.

I just returned from a Bass Pro Shop store and handled a Ruger SR-9....Wow! This is a very nice pistol and reasonably priced too. Yet another choice....hmmm. :D The grip is as slim as a 1911, but it has a double stack magazine that holds 17 rounds. Ofcourse, it's a Ruger, so the reputation is great.

Good hunting, Bowhunter57
