    video- Reloading Black powder .45-70

Excellent series of video's! What you do is basicly identical to what I do. The presentation and information that is given is clear and professional. Very well done. Hildo

    LeMat pronunciation

I'm Dutch, so France is'nt that far :) After a couple of holidays and a year of French at school I would say that: Le sounds like the Lu of Lurch Mat sounds like Ma of Mama (the French are known for not pronouncing the T at the end of words) I am 95% sure, but only a genuine French guy...

    Blackpowder cartridges in modern revolver

I don't use anything anymore but Black in my BFR in 45-70 and it works fine, smokeless is a little hard on the wrist. No problem in cleaning at all. Since the lands & grooves in the barrels of smokeless guns are cut less deep then those of BP weapons. I'm not sure if this has an actual...

    casting round balls

This how it's done on a woodfire. I'm fluxing the lead in the picture. Been casting for a couple of years this way, but just bought an electric melting pot. The problem with a woodfire is that the temperature is not consistant, but you will be able to cast lead balls, no doubt. I'ts quite...

    grease gun idea

Lube pills Not quite sure why one would want to mess with a syringe and grease when, Mykeal already showed it in a photo, lube pills... or are they really wads? They look simular anyway, My Walker starts to bind within 6 shots. When using lube pills (grease cookies) I can shoot all day long...

    Lead poisoning

If you want to check if you have a bad case of lead poisoning, check your gums. Thought gums would turn blue but actually, after googling, it seemes they will just show a blue line. Mine are fine upto now :D See: http://content.karger.com/produktedb/produkte.asp?typ=fulltext&file=000098100...

    How to make gun grips?

@madcratebuilder. You are right. Some things are just universal, no matter what language is used. If you ever happen to get to Holland you're invited to give the BFR a go at the range here. @JCT The manufacturing process of these grips took close to 4 hours. It is incredible to see two...

    How to make gun grips?

How it's done... a photoshoot I have a Magnum Research BFR revolver (which is only shot on blackpowder!) which now has a set of custom grips made by a German guy. I did a complete photoshoot on how he did it. The text is in Dutch however. The end result was absolute perfection. For a Colt...

Lube for Cap and Ball Mechansims, Cylinder Pin...

Why? Howdy Pohill, I think you were the person that set me off on the whole lubepill idea, couple of years ago, or maybe it was someone else at that time. My brain can't remember exactly but you were involved too. Pre-cut lubesticks the kitchen, and take them to the range in a jar. Less...

    #10 or #11 caps? What's the difference?

Dynamit Nobel RWS 1075, different lots, fits everyhting I have. Uberti Walker, Dragoon, 51 Navy and an original R&S with, aftermarket, nipples. They are German made, maybe that's why they are more costly in the US. CCI 11 needed to be pinched, therefore I quit using CCI. Pricing of Dynamit...

Lube for Cap and Ball Mechansims, Cylinder Pin...

After cleaning I use olive oil, but it don't prevent rust very well in a moist environment. Ballistol is way better, but I can't stand the smell... During shooting I use a lube pill between the powder and ball. Lube pills are made of 50/50 crisco/beeswax. Some use lard/beeswax. Do a search...

    flinter won't spark

Tempering is not necessary when surface hardening, like what I did with the Kasenit. The heat is applied just for a relative short time and you can't go wrong. The can with the leather (you can use charcoal too I hear) is a simple solution. Would like to try it sometime, but not on an...

    45-70 Trapdoor Ammo

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I believe that any blackpowder arm should be shot with blackpowder only. I would never consider using smokeless, although it may be safe. I suggest you buy some new 45-70 brass and do your own BP reloading. It's fun, low cost & safe. Hildo

    BP question..........

I have shot a roundball with 55 grains powder from a Walker. Also fired a 200 grain conical from that Walker, with 45 grains powder. I found that with the conical / 45 grains the recoil was a little more than with the roundball / 55 grains Hildo

    flinter won't spark

Hardening the frizzen, the simple way I have a copy of the French M1777 Charleville musket. Mine was made for the colonial (black) troops, and used from 1895 to 1900 in the oil rivers of Niger, Africa. The lock was a de-tuned model so it would not be reliable as the original army musket. The...

    considering a uberti dragoon

Magwa45 If you find a Walker too heavy, good change that the Dragoon will be too much for comfort as well. It's not that much lighter. The 1851 is great but I find the sites a bit poor. Hildo

adjusting the aim on a Walker

When my Walker was new it shot too high, like all of them do, and about 3 inches to the left. Now, some 2000 (wild guess) shots later it hits almost dead center, although still too high. Didn't change anything to the gun... it slowly centered itself over time. My other revolvers still have...

    Goex, Goex Express, & Swiss

Swiss powder is made in Switzerland, Europe, by Pouderie d' Aubonne SA. They have been doing this since 1853. 7 employees work in the powder production, using old time machines and production techniques. Quality stands before quantity it seems. This is reflected in the prices we pay for Swiss...

    The THR Walker Club

My Walker (Uberti) has not given me any problems and I don't think there are any specific problems with it, other than the falling loading lever. But that's historically correct. The catch spring that holds the loading lever is now broken on my gun, but that don't stop me shooting it. A little...

    The THR Walker Club

Hi Icy! Was missing you a while on THR. Guess you've got yourself the coolest BP revolver this side of the universe. Done a real good job to it too. Sure Scrat will sign you right up! Hildo
