Stoeger coach gun 410 ga. Loading Va.

My Baikal single has a "decocking" technique that the manual describes, but it seems dependent on the user to not be a dumbass and let the internal hammer down too fast on a live shell. Seems dumb to me. When storing the gun, I decock it this way, but never on a live shell.

.410 bore slugs vs. 000 buck

Hi folks, I bought some 1/5oz slugs and 000 (three ball) buck, both in 2-1/2" length. The buck is MUCH heavier, and it got me wondering about the effective range versus stopping power of each. It seems to me that one (relatively light) slug at 1800 fps might fell small game at longer distance...

18.5" cut down barrel - Room for a tac light on it?

FYI possums can't have rabies. I used to think this too, and possums were on my dangerous critters list. I did some more reading, and it turns out that they don't even act as carriers.

    Some Questions For You...

I introduced a teenage boy to shooting a while back, and that was really rewarding. Never did catch his name. He was with a group of older men at the range, and he seemed uninterested in shooting until he met my (very user friendly) .22 rifle. I introduced a couple of college-age young ladies...

    Bought a Mossberg 500 .410

I'm really happy with this gun after running maybe 75 shells through it today at the range. Patterns well beyond my expectations. Had a few problems loading shells from the magazine, but I think the dowel in there was causing problems. I removed the dowel after I got home this afternoon. Also...

    Bought a Mossberg 500 .410

Hi folks, Picked up a Mossy 500 series in .410 today. I've been looking for a .410 pump gun for a bit now, so I snapped it up when I saw it for a good price. I'm looking forward to taking this shotgun to the range to try it out. I used one of my spent shells to test cycle the action, and the...

    Another first shotgun question

Have you looked at single shot 12ga? Shooting skeet and trap is fun and challenging, and the low cost lets you invest more in practice. :)

    Rossi coach gun

Hi folks, I saw a Rossi SxS 410 at a local gun shop. Seemed pretty nice. How well made are these guns? I have a single shot Baikal 410 that I do everything with. I don't need/want another shotgun yet, but this Rossi looked interesting. Spaz

    Single shot shotgun recommendations

I love my Baikal .410 single shot with the wood stock. The fixed choke can't do slugs, but it groups tight at 40 yards with 000 buck. I paid in the neighborhood of $120 for it. I find the reduced weight and recoil worth the higher cost of .410 shells.

    .410 handgun rounds?

Hi folks, On a whim, I bought some Federal .410 "Handgun" rounds with #4 shot in them. They are 3" shells. I understand these are for the Judge series of revolvers, but are they any use in a long gun? My little single shot Baikal will fire and extract them just fine, but the shell itself...

    Met some Russians!

Let me offer an apology for the provincial tone of my thread. My OP didn't have a point - I just wanted to share an interesting experience. I did so with the awareness that not everyone here on THR is an American or spoke English as his or her first language. I often go where more politically...

    Polishing break action surfaces?

I don't intend to. Doing that with a live shell would be reckless. Also, this was really darn tight - and now I think that the wear on the hinge surfaces was from this abnormal pressure. Almost all the bluing is gone on both hinge surfaces after maybe 200-300 cycles, 100 of which were live shells.

    Polishing break action surfaces?

I just fixed it - and yes, luckydawg, I did do that a lot already! LOL! The way this break action is designed, when the front grip locks into place, it wedges that metal hinge piece between the stock and the tang coming off the bottom of the barrel (where the grip latches). The whole metal...

    Polishing break action surfaces?

It's all lubed up. Has been since the first day I had it, I took it completely apart and cleaned and oiled EVERYTHING.

    Polishing break action surfaces?

Hi folks, Forgive me that I don't know the right terminology for all the parts I'm talking about! I hope you folks can use your psychic powers to understand what I'm trying to say! My new break action .410 has about a hundred rounds through it, and the break action itself is really sticky...

    Met some Russians!

Hi folks, At the range this morning, I met some interesting folks at the range. A group of Russians were there, with all sorts of high-powered rifles, shotguns, and pistols. They let me and my buddy try a custom 12 gauge pump and a 7.62x58mm rifle. Their .223 AK clone threw brass out with...

    .22 Opinions

My Savage 64 can do a 10-shot 3" group with cheap Federals while I'm standing and taking careful paced shots. I haven't tried with this new scope yet, it will probably get much better. Great rifle.

    New scope + rail

Hi folks, Pics of the new scope and Weaver adapter rail on my Savage 64 .22lr. Very comfortable, perfect eye relief. Can't wait to hit the range. Spaz ---

Should I get a survival rifle?

As a zombie apocalypse adherent (it's just a joke to me, really, but it gives me the excuse to stock up on things I would normally do without), I agree. The scoped rifle is not a defensive weapon. As far as HD, surviving against people who were trying to hurt me or my loved ones, I could use...

Should I get a survival rifle?

I think the AR-7 looks cool, but I agree that a normal rifle would serve just fine. If you take my Savage 64 out of the stock (two allen bolts), you can store it in a padded bag no longer than 24"... a good truck gun you could assemble in literally a minute or two. Or you could pack a Rossi...
