10 mm questions

Try Georgia Arms for ammo. Lancer is also cheap but watered down but from my understanding you can customize it. As far as Doubletap, ive ordered from them and the service was great. The only one ive heard having problems with was Lancer ammo and it wasnt with the ammo it was with the service. Some were still waiting a month down the road.

If your luck with Witnesses has been that good, then you should have a pocketfull of lottery tickets. Do a search for them on this forum and www.10mmtalk.com and you'll find plenty.

Member of that forum already and I still don't see the problems being anymore or less then any other.
Got to be me then I figure we will have to argree to dis-agree.
Have you owned one? and in 10mm?

Just did a fresh search at www.10mmtalk.com and the problems that re-occar according to what has been post there
1) Magazines suck, the old black follower ones did Red better but I still put wolff +15% mag springs in and as I posted the only problem I had was with a mag

2)factory reciol spring weight is more middle of the road 10mm and If you want to shoot full house stuff get a heavier spring which is standard for about any 10mm

Really glad I got "The Twenty."

-Signed, another Glock 20 owner.

The Glock 20 was built from the ground up to take a steady diet of original spec 10mm ammo and last generations. You'd have better luck shaking an anvil apart.

I might try my hand with the Witness some day, but not until I have a Glock 21 and 30, and probably a 29 and either a 17 or 19 to go along with my 20. Never saw the point of dealing with EAA when you can get the Glock and have parts and accessories readily available.

I like my Witness

I see that Glock lovers like Glocks and will defend them no matter what. Unfortunately, in this fervor, they poopoo everything else as inferior, typical elitist insecure (or Germanesque) response in my opinion.

Me, I think Glocks are UGLY, read of case support issues with peppy ammo in the DT range. And I personally do not like the trigger or ergonomics. All this aside, they are still sound guns, I just don't prefer them and don't anticipate ever actually owning one. So, if you want a gun in 10mm that you need to buy a new barrel for to run the full range of power through, then buy a Glock in 10mm.

The Witness can handle full loads, but still needs some stiffer springs to make things work optimally Spring kits from Wolff are on the order of $30, barrels for Glocks are on the order of $100-$200 or more. I can have a witness full size in wonder finish, all new springs to take the beefy offrering Mike McNett makes availabe, and still have spent less money than on a Glock that needs a barrel right away to handle the full power stuff safely without case bulging issues.

That's my take.

Again, my Witness is running fine. The gun shop guy said they are pretty solid and I have not read of many problems as I read some of you Glockies are so bent on professing. The gun shop stated they have never had any witness model come back through the shop for service.

And, I'm cheap, the Witness has good reviews on the boards, so I went for it. But I also own a Taurus, a brand some love to hate, and I've never had any issues with it either, no matter how much folks bad mouthed it, it did not seem to hear them. So yes, maybe I should buy a lottery ticket, and if I win, maybe I'll buy some Glocks just to round out the collection I'll be amassing in the 10mm arena.:neener:

Even though I have a G20 I wouldn't mind getting a Witness in 10MM some day. For the price why not.

Heck, I even plan on getting a Taurus Tracker in 10MM when they hit the market. Can't afford a darn S&W 610 though:eek:

looks like the backup arrived packing witness's
AND as for stuff you can go EAA's web sight and order all kinds of customizing goodies. WAY more then for the Glock even if Aero has some neet stuff

Jeepmor, the stock barrel on the Glock is plenty strong to take a steady diet of full power 10mm rounds. It might be advisable to get an aftermarket barrel if you plan on handloading full power loads and wish to prolong case life. Mike McNett uses a completely stock G20 for his load development. As mentioned earlier, the Glock was built to take thousands of rounds of full power loads, and the barrel is no exception.

The reason Glock owners are so defensive about their pistols is because some idiots insist on spreading rumors.

You ain't got anything to complain about try owning a FN 5.7x28 USG Auto:)

Back on thread. I know Mike uses a glock, but just how much does a stock glock barrel allow for case bulging?

The Glock stock barrel is strong enough to shoot full power 10mm loads until pigs fly. By the chamber is loose--at the limit of SAAMI tolerances--and this can lead to cases bulging. I shot about 600 DTs through my Glock with the stock barrel in it, and only a small handful had any percievable case bulging. This isn't a problem unless you reload. Then, as I suggested, it may be beneficial to get a KKM or other aftermarket barrel to put in it. Which really isn't a big deal. The pistol is fully on par with names such as SIG and HK in terms of quality but costs $200 less. Spending $160 on a new barrel on brings the price closer to that of its competitors--it still isn't like you're being gouged or anything. Heck, I'd still rather spend $700 on a Glock with a KKM than ever spend that much on an HK again. I spent $1000 on a USP Tactical and wish it was half the pistol my Glock is. I bought a KKM for my Glock when I started reloading, but that was more for case life than anything. If I didn't reload, I would be perfectly content with the Glock factory barrel and full power Double Tap loads.

1. The Witness pistols are very trouble prone. If you get one that works, you're very lucky and should also buy some lottery tickets. If you get one that doesn't work, there is no Hell like that which is called EAA Customer Service.

More like the Witness magazines are very trouble prone. The pistols are awesome. Only problems I have ever had with mine have been feed problems caused by the magazine. The mag springs are weak and have difficulty pushing the rounds up into the extractor. All I did was remove the springs from my worthless 10 round Beretta 92 mags and install them in my Witness mags. I have also done some other fine tuning that was necessary for total reliability with my handloads, wich average 742 ft/lbs from the 3.5" barrel.

The Witness' are excellent guns-even the basic models. If you step up into the Elite line you will really fall in love.

I also have a Kimber Stainless Target 10mm and a S&W 1006. Both of them are excellent pistols, but the 10XX series are getting more and more scarce and the Kimber is a pricey little unit.
