Wow. I don't have a 10mm but the night is young!

However, I'm very surprised to see Glock in the minority here (at least with the individual posts . . I see it's up in the poll). Before I clicked into this thread I imagined 90% Glock. I didn't even know Witness came in 10mm! They need to have an infomercial on 10mm! Very impressive!

The best part for me . . . I already reload .40 so all I have to do is turn a wrench and I'm loading 10mm too!

:)

Yep, should have made it a multiple choice poll for sure.

Here are a couple, a DW Razorback and a Delta.

I already had the Para Ordnance P-16 Limited but it was "only" a .40 Short & Weak...for about $100 it was transformed into a 10mm.

So is it now a P16-40 UN-Limited ??

This pic is a bit dated as I've added a few more 10mms since I took it. One of the more common complaints about the 10mm is that there aren't that many guns available. I don't think most people realize just how many different 10mms models are actually out there. I've managed to pick up quite a few, but I still don't have a S&W 1026 or 1066, a Colt Double Eagle, a Sprinfield Omega or Linkless, or Kimber. There are even other more obscure 10mms out there (like the D-Max carbine for instance) but these are very hard to come by.

I always wanted an EAA Witness. Fifteen in the mag? Wow. What are the measurements on that beast and how's the recoil? Compare it to a Glock 23 if you can.

Oh, and I'll take fries with that!! LOL! :neener:

It's roughly the size of a 1911 Government model, give and take here and there. The grip is rather big though, but isn't far from most hicap wondernines. I have since fitted a set of Hogues to it and it cut down on the grip diameter. The fit is close to 1911 in SA, but a bit of a reach with my medium-sized hands in DA mode. Still managable.

Recoil: More brisk than .45 +p, but not by much. It does have decent muzzleblast though. It will get you attention for an autoloader when you fire it. If you frequent areas with black bear or mountain lions and want protection, you can't beat a 10mm with heavy bullet loads. McNett even has some with 220gr cast bullets for sell.

Thanks a lot for the info.

Sounds like grip could be an issue. My hands aren't small but not too large either. I can grip all of the Glocks, large revos, HK's and most 1911's fine but I have trouble with double stack Sigs and certain other models. It's kind of strange because I play (some) piano and reach has never been a problem. I can reach one octave plus a key with either hand but when I was holding the Sig 229 I wanted to buy real bad, the tip of my finger sat on the corner of the trigger at a 45 degree angle. I think my hand is shaped such that it's the width of the grip gets me.

The Witness can be carried cocked and locked safely, which is the way I prefer to carry it anyway. Put some slim, wood grips on it and it should be fine.

other. My only 10mm is a Star Megastar. I may get a Ruger Buckeye convertible revolver some day.

None, yet, but I'm giving serious thought to a S&W 610. I, too, had no idea there were so many 10mm out there. I knew about the 610, the Glocks, Colt, Bren 10, and S&W autos, but pretty cool that there are even more out there, and ones you can get new as well as used. I love my Kimber .45, so maybe that's my auto version? Which 1911 version do folks like best out of Colt, or Kimber?

hartzpad/Kitt-
I have the Para 16-40 Limited also. Can the conversion still fire .40 S&W? Is the capacity still 16? If so, that sure gets me thinking!

Yes, Para-Ord conversion still work and are somewhat popular. Probably the best 1911 is Dan Wesson. They started the whole 10mm 1911 resurgence with the Razorback. If I was to buy a 1911 in 10mm today, it would be theirs. Even if it was for nothing more than to thank them for starting production of it.

jhawk92 what I did was buy an extra P-16 barrel (E-Bay $75) and had Hunter Customs to ream it to 10mm. I now have both the .40 S&W and 10mm barrels but I have never put the .40 barrel back in the pistol ...

It's funny... Everybody I've talked to about the Para P16 conversion opts for a second barrel so they can still shoot .40 out of their gun, but in the end never use the barrel again. I think that says something right there!

Rook-
Hmm, guess I have a bit of research to do this weekend on Dan Wesson's version. Always happy to support a company who keeps things alive.

Kitt/Nordic-
Now that's an interesting idea; get a new barrel and ream that one. I take it there aren't any other changes you need to do? Will the 10mm still fit in the factory magazines? That would be pretty sweet to load up 16+1 in the Para. Guess I'll have to search eBay now; are they up there often? What are some good key words for a search? I thought eBay had banned firearms related auctions. How much was it to ream out the barrel? This is probably a much less expensive way to get into a 10mm auto. Hmm, I'm liking this idea, though my wallet might not be. :)

I went with a Scheumann Ultimatch bull barrel for a little extra weight. The factory Para mags work fine with the 10mm, but I found that if I load my ammo to 1.255" it makes it a bit easier on the thumb when loading the mag. Besides upgrading the springs you also need to be sure and have the slide stop notch cut out and install an EGW oversized firing pin stop.

I am interested in a Witness 10mm, but for now this is the only one I carry.
:D
