1911 and Glock

Figure out a way to put a 1911 trigger on a Glock and the world will be right forever. I shoot them both but the 1911 is definately my preference.

"You got any more Berettas you want to "trade off"?"...
You say that like you think it's a bad trade.
No...just had the one, a pistol I got in a trade two years ago, a trade for a pistol I paid $275 for. I wanted the Beretta 92FS to see what the fuss was about concerning the US miltary service pistol.
I liked the Beretta fine...it is a good pistol, and accurate. But it was a pistol that wasn't getting much use. I got it used cheaply, and there are lots of used beretta's out there, as well as the recently imported clone which seems pretty nice, and is cheap.
The Glock 17 I got was about new, less than 100rds through it, and has the discontinued OD frame, which may or may not add to it's value some day (they seem to be going at a slight premium already). Plus I was able to sell separately the extra mags and holsters I had accumulated for the Beretta.
Finally, while I think the Beretta is a fine pistol, I believe the Glock to be a better combat 9mm...smaller, lighter.

I own and love them both

I currently have two Glocks, a 23 and a 32. I have 10 different 1911's. Two Rock Islands, Two Taurus, 1 S&W Enhanced(on layaway) and 5 Kimbers. I have two 3", one 3&1/2", three 4", and four 5" guns. One of my 5" guns is a Rock Island Tactical in 9mm. The reason I only own two Glocks is that a Glock is a Glock is a Glock. I have had as many as six at one time. The mid sized gun is "perfection" and 40 S&W and 357 Sig pack a lot of firepower in a small package.

I have two types of semi autos now. 1911s and Glocks. 1911s can be a little more finicky, imo, than Glocks but when you get a well made 1911 that runs, they are hard to beat. I have had good luck with Springfield and Wilson Combat's full size guns in terms of reliability and of course accuracy. When I can carry a full size gun it's the 1911. If I want something a little lighter and perhaps easier to conceal I take the Glock 26. Both are excellent platforms and both can be extremely reliable. I have not had good luck with the compact 1911s and tend to stay away from them.

If you are just looking to pull something out of the box and go and don't want to spend a lot of money the Glock, IMO, is the better option. Example - A used Glock 26 can be had for about $400 (maybe less depending on where you live). You can pick up a Glock brand polymer holster for $15-20 and be good to go.

Own both platforms. They both have their own pros & cons.

The argument of one platform over the other is just absurd. What is ideal for one person is completely wrong for another. Shoot as many different platforms as you can and find out what works for you.

I went the other way ... 1911s and SIGs. As far as pistols are concerned, I don't need or want anything else.

Yep, you picked up on my subtle predilection pretty quickly! Not to worry though, my opinion here reflects nothing more than my very subjective bias. Nothing more and nothing less.

Well then. Lets just say that the Beretta 92FS, while a fine pistol, was just an experiential investigation for me...In reality, it falls somewhat below the Browning HiPower as a combat 9mm for me...and now the Glock as well.
In trading away a pistol I had about $275 in and also selling extra mags and holsters at a profit, I ended up with what I consider a better pistol...and one that is worth a little more. I would make that trade any day.
Back to the OP's thread, the 1911 is an excellent platform. It is unfortunate that todays manufactures have done some of the things they have done to it...MIM parts, suspect magazines...stated requirements to "break in" a new 1911 with 500rds before the new owner should worry about jams...
