The story of the light lug is limited. They are called ".38/44 Heavy Duty Pre-Model 20, Special Light Lug Variation, Caliber .38 S&W Special" (quoting from the factory letter). It was shipped from our factory on August 8, 1960, and delivered to H.H.Harris Co., Chicago, IL. The records indication that this revolver was shipped with a 4" barrel, blue finish and a special light lug variation, and checkered walnut grips. This shipment was for 12 units of this special variation all in the same configuration.
As Iggy said, it looks like a big M&P with no under barrel lug that would be on a normal 38/44 4" HD.
