Currently I have;
25-06
270
30-06
300 WSM

My 13 yr old son hunted with the 25-06 last week and took a deer with it. He handloaded the 120g partition himself and destroyed both lungs with a nice chest shot. Later that week we took it to the range and consistently hit a target at 400 yds with 115g Nosler BTs. It is a very accurate flat shooting round.

Obviously I'm a fan of the 25-06 and recommend it. I've never shot or owned a 243 so I have no comment on it. When researching calibers I looked at ballistics and found the 25-06 to meet my needs over other calibers in this class.

My friends who were bench shooters sold me the .2506 Remington 700. That is right , the .2506 is such an all around caliber. Lighter and faster is the name of the game.

According to a recoil chart I recently studied, 25-06 has LESS recoil than .308 yet shoots slightly flatter out to approx 300 yards. I tend to ignore ballistics beyond 300 yards because doesn't match my hunting experiences.

What's the point? 25-06 is a low recoil long range deer and antelope slayer. It's a worthy rifle to strongly consider.
