Just like buying a whole new gun . Thats the irony now, if you want the most coveted AR platform, got to pay to feed it.

Before all this nonsense, about 300.00 for 1000 rounds before shipping was about right. doing the math now,350 for only 500 rounds before shipping is hardly a deal .....

I actually saw a winning bid on GunBroker a little over a week ago that cost a guy $2006 for 1000 rounds of 223.
There were over a dozen bidders and it's my opinion that two guys with ego's and money just was not going to let the other get it away from him.
Auction fever at it's finest.

As long as people keep paying their prices, they have no incentive to lower them. I think I'll just pull up a chair, and wait for the dust to settle.

It appears at least SOMEBODY thought it was an OK price to pay anyway.

Well, people do a lot of things that make no sense.. I've watched people on ebay buy up old silver coins at more than double their value..

Luckily, you can find .223 around here, a little elevated at some places, but not like that. Most have limits on what you can buy... but a trip here and there over a few days can get you a lot ..

It is beyond my understanding why anyone would pay $1 a round, let alone over $2 a round, for ammo I can reload for under .20 a round. A special kind of stupid maybe?

As I look behind me, I see about 900 rounds of .223 sitting under my loading bench.......

Ditto. Although I just have around 400, but I don't shoot my AR much. I'd much rather shoot a pistol caliber carbine.

Not to hijack this thread but what's the best price on match-grade .308 these days? And what was the best price before Connecticut?

My reloaded press is looking shinier and shinier, I have 640 rds of 223 in a 30 cal can labeled "Very Rainy Day"

Hand made by yours truly.

Seen people happily paying over a dollar a round for steel case import and happy to get it. It is a sellers market and as long as there are buyers willing to pay it will stay that way. My guess is that even when the run ends, ammo prices will not go back down to pre-panic prices. The consumer has told the suppliers they will pay whatever it costs.

Some people don't have reloading equipment. Or the time that it takes to do it. Or the room that it takes up. I don't consider myself stupid. I just don't have the equipment, time, or room to store and reload in.

A couple of weeks ago there was a add in tne local paper for 500 223 rounds for 300 bucks, today in the same paper 500 rounds for $500. Must be some real good stuff huh.

Last spring I bought bulk Federal xm193 for $329 for 1,000 rd's and then kicked myself for paying so much. I just kicked myself again...for not buying more last spring.

One of the guys who works for me is married to someone in property management/real estate. They foreclosed on a property and had to remove everything left behind by the previous owner/tenant.

She called him and told him to ask around if anyone here could use a case and a half of .223 Remington that was left there in a closet.
