I shudder to think how the kids are being educated these days.
I just can't figure out why there seem to be so many socialists in the education system.
While I was attending public junior college I thought I was on the road to a decent education. Nothing great. Just decent. But there were all the little comments here and there that I thought nothing of then but thinking back they just add up.
It was unintentional of course but a few of the teachers were clearly letting their bias show through. Guns are bad. Hunting is for unfeeling brutes. I was even showed a Michael Moore movie in class. I didn't know who Michael Moore was back then and didn't care. Now I care and I won't even comment about what I think of the guy. You don't want to know. This is the The High Road.

I wish I had an academy type education. I think I would've done well in that environment.

When I was in school, I wrote a paper on the 2nd Amendment while in a US History class. You could write a paper on anything in the Constitution, and I wrote about the 2nd Amendment with an extremely pro sentiment. And, my teacher gave me an A+. Said it was my best work in the class, and he was a standard grade Democratic voter with anti sentiments. Granted, he was a good teacher.

Now, as for teachers, a teacher's job is to give a baseline education, and teach how to think. Not what toi think. Not all of my teachers were like this. I had a Black History teacher who was quite simply a racist, and tried to make the white kids in class feel bad about their skin colour. I had a US Gov teacher who was incompetent. An idiot who had no understanding of the Constitution.

The problem with schools is that some teachers know nothing of the subjects they are asked to teach. History teachers shouldn't teach chemistry. Biology teachers shouldn't teach US Gov. Really, the problem is each kind of teacher isn't required to really know what they teach.

That being said, this paper was graded by Mass lawyers. And that crew of flunkies are basically hippy nuts with high paying jobs. Of course they thought this was a great paper.

If this had been a pro-essay, it wouldn't have won, but I seriously doubt the kid would have had to go to the counselor's office.

Granted, I'm from Missouri. For all I know, Mass might actually have that repressive a society. But, look at it this way. I'll never go to Massachusetts to live, so I'm good.

Whatever, the kid is just going to get an inflated head and grow up to be a flake, just like his flakey teachers.

Taking from your POV, no one should ever go to Missouri since only gun toting ignorant rednecks live in that state. Don't speak in generalites since you will alienate a good % of people. Wake up this is a problem all of us face together. Together we stand, Divided we fall.

What part of "shall not be infringed" does this dolt not understand?

I suppose we should do away with the first, too, because I'm illiterate and can't comprehend all the big words and linguistic arrangement. Besides, if you're illiterate and uneducated like this child is, I don't suppose having free speech is all that worthwhile anyway: you abuse your right, you lose it. it's that simple.

Hmmm. Well written. Smart kid. Maybe he'll grow up to be the next Ted Kennedy or JF Kerry...

Or maybe he will have an epiphany, excercise his ability for rational thought and change his position. At 12-13 years of age many kids are capable of making sound arguments. They just base them on feelings and wishes, not
logic, facts or knowledge. As they age they sometimes learn to put real world information before feelings. Those that don't vote for Hilary.:neener:

Also interesting to note that not only do they not see a reason for the people to be armed with a standing army (which should be reason enough),

The people who wrote the second amendment didn't see the need for a standing army either. The lack of a standing army actually fairly important to the need for the second amendment.

but that they also view the bill of rights as rights granted that can be repealed and not as an acknowledgement of rights already possessed.

Well, they are in fact correct that any amendment to the constitution can effectively be nullified by an additional amendment. (see 18th and 21st amendments).

Probably very little considering that the authorS are probably about 13 years old. Apparently you didn't understand that it was written by more than one person (3 in fact), information that was clearly stated in the first paragraph of this thread, how old are you?

It’s not just MA or a red/blue state or a public/homeschool issue. It’s worse than that folks. The anti’s are more passionate, being driven by fear, than we are, driven by reason. Does that make sense?
My son is in sixth grade, a 12yo. On Wed a maintenance man walked up to the open door of the classroom holding some type of electrical detection device that looks for breaks in wire and he scanned the doorframe. It was black, had a pistol-type grip and a barrel-type receiver. My son said, “wow, that looked like a gun.” The teacher called him to her desk and told him he was getting a write-up, three of which will garner an In-School-Suspension. He asked, “am I getting this for saying gun?” She answered, “no, you are getting this for saying a potentially alarming phrase.” WHAT??? I have a meeting with the Principal on Monday. :banghead: No hijack intended.

You cannot blame the children. They like some thoughtless adults still are under the impression that if the law did not allow thier possession the crimes and people hurting other people with them would go away. They do no realize other items would just be used. That trained strong men good and bad would be empowered and women children and less capable men would be at the mercy of those men unable to challenge them defensively. They still see the item as evil, and not the people that will just use another item, or an illegal one. They still see all authority as set in stone, has been always will be. That the system always operates idealy. That the friendly officer will save them if they need help, and will be in time to do so. That those in power never become corrupt or self serving when the defenders of liberty are silenced and disarmed.
They are children still.

After reading the essay, all that I can say is that it is sad that our youth can be brainwashed in such a manner. The even sadder thing is that someone with beliefs such as these will one day continue spreading these misguided beliefs as a member of the House or Senate from the great state of Massachusetts. They seem to have an overabundance of such folks.

Another approach

Dropped the following e-mail to the DA that judged the essay:
If others care to write, he can be reached at his "feedback" website.

Sir, with all due respect, I don't understand how the above was awarded first place. The editorial is filled with inaccuracies and to be awarded ‘first place’ is a travesty of justice and an affront to the Bill of Rights.
Might I suggest a few, free or inexpensive, resources to learn more about the Second Amendment? A little education on the subject would help.
This is a link to a recently released and excellent documentary on the Second Amendment that should be shown in every history/government class.
http://www.secondamendmentdocumentary.com/
This is a link to the book by Palladium Press called:
The Second Amendment Primer.
http://www.palladiumpress.com/Mercha...Category_Code=
There is also another excellent primer available for free:
http://www.virginiainstitute.org/pub...r_on_const.php
If the last two links do not work, they all can be found by doing a google search for, “Second Amendment Primer”
Hope the above help.
Best,
Jon
