As stated, if you already have a favorite gun it might be a good idea to just change the caliber. Personally, I'm buying an XDm .40 this week and then doing a drop in barrel for 9mm and .357 sig. The XDm in 9mm holds 19+1. Thats some serious firepower. Doing it this way gets me three pistol calibers for around $950 out the door ($600 for the XDm, 150x2 for the barrels and another $50 for a couple 9mm magazines.
A couple other things to think about, can you just do a barrel and mag change in one of your current .40's? That would get you out the door for maybe $200 and your current holsters would still work.
Also, what do your co workers carry? Are you ever concerned about being able to swap mags with another coworker? Having that capability is one of the reasons why we cant bring our personal weapons to combat in the military.
