A CCW badge?

You display your BADGE to the police and shout, "DON'T SHOOT. I'M A LEGALLY LICENSED HAND GUN OWNER."

:D

Badges are a bad idea. I think it's pretty universal with the exception of the mall ninjas. You just open up an entirely new realm of getting yourself killed by accident or arrested for impersonating an officer.

Ditto this as a bad idea. Cops won't respect it. It says "cop wannabe." I don't want to be a cop. I just want to be accepted, and respected, as an armed citizen, with the right to bear arms. The cops I know respect the license I have to carry. I don't need no stinkin' badge. :neener:

Shortly after I got my Florida permit, I received an offer in the mail from Florida.gov for a badge.

I look at it as an opportunity to be accused of impersonating a police officer.

Kinda defeats the purpose of concealed carry.

But... I've seen them advertised in magazines. If they were $5 and not $40, I'd probably get one, not to wear it or carry it, but just because it is SO cheesy.

While I see it as a bad idea under the current legal climate, as well as currently being just some stupid something to make money and outfit Mall Ninjas, I wonder about the two comments quoted below.

Shortly after I got my Florida permit, I received an offer in the mail from Florida.gov for a badge.

You said this was from Florida.gov, so I'm wondering why they'd be wanting to sell a phony baloney deal to a citizen who's gone through the background checks and proven to be law-abiding. This is the first I've heard of this.

I look at it as an opportunity to be accused of impersonating a police officer.

This is what I wonder about even moreso; why the state of Florida would offer a law-abiding citizen the opportunity to be charged with impersonating an police officer?

I do recall another thread somebody started because their state requires that armed agents of recognized companies have a badge and IIRC some sort of state mandated training. But to have a badge for no good reason in a legal and political climate where such isn't legally recognized... as others have said, bad idea.

Regarding post #8, I agree that wearing a badge openly does defeat the purpose of concealed carry. Even cops, either plain clothes or off duty, do not display their badges. I recall one of regular poster here, Jeff White, saying unless he's working a detail, his badge is concealed and that there are reasons nobody wants to "get made" for a cop. Yet, every time this subject comes up, we see a flurry of guys sarcastically saying "so let me get this straight; I'm supposed to conceal my gun but I'm supposed to wear this big ol' Marshall Dillon badge on my chest that says I'm carrying concealed". And I'm like "ummm, no" because if such became "the deal" then there'd be guidelines, probably similar to agents and officers, for how the badge would be carried and used. Unless I missed something, none of those guidelines would include unnecessarily flashing the badge around. But at this time, such is not "the deal", so why worry about it.

Personally, I wouldn't give two bits for a fake badge, but I agree that it's pretty cheesy and in some way it's also funny. I guess the funny part is how the mall ninjas are eating this stuff up.

wow. Their video advertisement more or less tries to get the message across of, "Buy our badge, or you'll be shot by the police..... You don't want to live don't you? Then buy our badge!"

I've heard of ads that had balls, but this takes the cake.

Needs more rhinestone/cubic zirconia/Swarovski crystals.

Seriously, I can't think of many things that scream "I am way too full of myself" more than a CCW badge. Might as well look the part with a little bling.

From the product page:
The police pull up to the scene and the dirtbag shouts, "He's going to shoot me. KILL HIM!"
WHAT DO YOU DO?

Roll your eyes? Great sales pitch - "BUY OUR BADGE OR THE POLICE WILL KILL YOU BASED ON THE UNCORROBORATED INFORMATION FURNISHED BY SOMEONE WHO'S JUST AS MUCH OF A SUSPECT AS YOU ARE, MOMENTS AFTER THEY ARRIVE ON THE SCENE, WITH NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON."

Sticking your hand in your pocket/inside your jacket to "pull out your CCW badge" while an officer with handgun trained on you orders you (along with "the dirtbag") to the ground sounds like an extraordinarily effective way to get shot. There goes that theory.

What ever happened to common sense? Reading through the sales pitch, the answer should be a no-brainer [begin edit]: spend your money on some Kevlar underpants like mine instead, and you can perform the deadly "doggiestyle takedown/restraint" on the dirtbag while simultaneously being protected from police gunfire in the event of any ADs/NDs:

Tactical Ninja, Your post bears no mention of tactical whizbangitry or kevlar underpants. Just thought I'd inform you as per the request in your signature line so the error can be corrected.:neener:

How 'bout you pay ME $44 and I'll teach you 4 things to do when attacked by Crocodile Dundee:

a) Place your hands up SLOWLY when an LEO arrives to take control of the screen.

b) Comply with the officer’s commands and surrender your weapon.

c) DO NOT turn to face the officer with your gun extended looking like you are trying to cover him with the muzzle of your weapon.

d) DO NOT turn to face the officer with your gun extended looking like you are trying to cover him with the muzzle of your weapon.

I realize that is technically only 3 things. But the last one is so important I thought it should really be driven home.

hmmm... 10 bucks a bullet point. Need 4 more dollars of learin'? Oooh-Kaay. Keep your booger hook of the bang switch until you are actually going to fire! (surprised he didn’t ND when the cops drove up!).

That’ll be $44.

To the OP… not snarked at you. This add just made me puke. Not your fault there are sleazy scuzzwad a-holes trying to turn a buck by scaring people.

Frankly I don’t think this is one of those topics that should be closed at the drop of a hat. Yes it’s redundant, but if it stops one person from buying one of the things…

It’s for the children.

It would make a fine gag gift although $44 is way too much.
That is so true!! If it were cheaper, I would totally get badges for a few of my friends :) Then they could feel official.

Theres entirely different training for LEO's than concealed carry owners. You dont have any specail rights you just get to excersize all of your constitutional ones. As a concealed carry you just know gun safety and basic self defense rules. You dont have any more authority in a bad sitaution than an ordinary citizen. The badge is stupid because it empowers you to think your some sort of police force auxilary.

The badge also as several have said is a great chance to get charges pressed against you for impersonating a cop.

You want a badge? Then go to the academy and earn it. CCW badges are one of the stupidest things out there. The typical buyer is just a wannabe.

Not even through the first page and we have already made it through all the obligatory arguments against the badge

Police impersonation, wannabe needs to go through the academy, badge will give away your concealed gun (I guess concealing a badge would be so much harder than concealing a gun)Your friends will make fun of you for being a mall Ninja

There are really no valid reasons for not carrying a badge other than the $44 would be better spent on practice ammo or a decent holster
I also can not think of a really good reason to carry one

Perhaps having one pinned next to your holster in the off chance that you accidentally flash your gun would cause the uneducated to not immediately call the police (In Florida that could go badly for you)
But that's as far as I can stretch

Now I don't wanna get flamed, but I can see a couple uses ofr a badge, just like the one posted above. Or, you could keep it in your back pocket, and if you happen to come uncovered in front of grandma or a soccer mom, and they start to scream, a quick flash of shiny gold and you saying that you're liscensed to carry ought to shut them up. You can only go to prison for impersonating a police officer if you say you are a police officer. Don't say that.

All that being said, no, I don't own one of those friggin' badges.
