Drove out to one of my LGS today to pick up my new rifle I ordered a few weeks ago. On the way back I stopped at Bass Pro Shop and found a welcome mat that said "Warning: Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again." I have always loved this slogan and for $10 it was a steal. I got it home and thought to myself "What if someone sees this and KNOWS I have firearms to steal when I'm not home?" Similar to the thread a few weeks ago about having NRA and related stickers on your vehicle. So am I being overtly paranoid?

I don't think you're being paranoid.
Essentially, you're advertising that you have valuables in your home, and also that if someone wants to burgle your home, they'd better arm themselves.

Those are fun slogans and always make me smile. However, I don't put any kind of stickers on my car, truck, doors or windows. I will not give a lawyer even one fingernail grip to use against me. I also don't want the BG to think he has a reason to target my home or vehicle.

Thats not being paranoid. Remember, they...the lawyers and criminals...ARE out to get us.

My only concern would be, somwhat depending on local 2a stance, the DA using it to try and paint u as an insane bloodthirsty gun nut should you ever actualy have to shoot an intruder. Of course end of the day, justified is justified, but it could give more ammo to prosecution. "I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough"

Back door or patio? I have lots of gun stickers that will eventually go in a reloading room, I have no intention of putting them on my vehicle or outside my home.

I'd rather someone break in and steal my insured firearms while I'm not home, than break in and cost me a lawyer when I am.

I don't think it is a big deal and wouldn't worry about it. If they get to your door mat and you don't know them, they were probably going to try to steal from you anyways.
Back when I lived in an apartment in Cincinnati in a shady apartment complex, I hung up a silhouette that I shot up at the indoor range on my door. I never had a problem.

You can put it on the interior side. If they get that far, their already in criminal territory.

As I love to tell people, "to be paranoid requires me to be wrong all the time, to be prepared means I only have to be right once."

I don't like stuff like that because if you ever DID have to use lethal force, an unscrupulous DA would drag that thing into a courtroom to aid in character assassination.

I personally would not put any kind of placard or welcome mat that suggested I was protected by Smith & Wesson or any of the other cute sayings. You would never know I owned a single firearm if you went into my house unless I told you.

The message you are putting out is " if anyone is home move on, if the house is empty there are valuables to be had". Burglars do not want confrontations, they can tell if a house is empty in minutes, they want items they can move fast for cash (read: guns and jewelry).

I stole your quote and stuck it on my FB wall (just as above; giving you credit). LOL

Amusing man cave decoration, but truly moronic for the front, or back, door.

Advertising firearms present? CHECK

Notifying press that you're a blood thirsty gun nut after shooting an intruder? CHECK

Making a great visual for the story about you being a blood thirsty gun nut? CHECK

The best idea is to look like everyone else from the outside.

Front door was out by the time I took off the tags. Back door was a consideration since it is never traveled by public. Decided to put it outside my reloading room instead. Thank you gents (women?) for adjusting my tin foil hat for me.

Didn`t the late ,great actor Humphrey Bogart say: " Anyone who is NOT paranoid is not in full possession of the facts. " ?
Someone else said " Just because you are paranoid dosen`t mean there aren`t people who ARE out to get you!"
I`d probably display that mat only on the inside of my inner sanctum ( man cave).:D

I don't know about "paranoid" and I don't know where the OP lives but having lived in; Minnesota, Massachusetts and California, I wouldn't have that sentiment posted anywhere openly anymore than I would have a "beware of dog" sign.

Just as with the potential litigation effect of the dog sign, I wouldn't want to be dealing with photos of that floor mat in a post event law suit - should one live in one of those awful law-suit happy regions.
