I read your old posts. Glad he's getting better but don't underestimate him. He may have just gotten smarter so he doesn't get beat down anymore. He may even resent you for the beat down and is just waiting for the perfect time to get back at you or others. I know he's your brother and you love him but there are people out there that are just plain crazy. Keep your guns locked. Hopefully I'm wrong and good luck

He talks about making a gun free nation, modeling us after the all mighty and powerful Russians (forgive me, but he's obsessed, everyone in the family knows it, and I've got nothing against them from my brothers from the Motherland, but all the talk does sorta get old)

Heh heh. He's mistaken. I'm on my 12th day in Russia. 2 more to go and I'm looking forward to coming home on Sunday (NC). I can tell you they are not "all mighty and powerful". I'm sure you know that, but your brother has to learn. He would not like the level of survelliance and control they have here. Well, most Americans wouldn't like it. At least the city I'm in. And it's in Siberia. I imagine Moscow is worse.

In the last 2 weeks, I've come to realize how good we have it.

He's 16. There's a reason adults look so infuriatingly down on teenagers. They really don't have any experiance in the world.

Let him be a high-school revolutionary, and continue to set an example of what a stable, hardworking american should act like. Give him 5 or so years and I'll bet he settles down.

Ditto

I didn't read this whole string, but, have you considered a good ol' Southern @$$ whipping?

That's why he's getting better

I suspect he is NOT getting better - he is just afraid of getting beat again.

There's a difference - a BIG difference - particularly if he is suffering from a mental illness, and I suspect from your description that he is bi-polar (i.e., manic-depressive).

This is a REAL brain disease - with real and effective treatments available.

As someone who has lived with a mentally ill family member (my son), I can tell you in my worst moments I have been frustrated enough to consider administering a beating.

The result would have been a temporary dissipation of my frustration, and a permanent feeling of remorse.

Apparently remorse is not a problem for you - but I guarantee you haven't fixed the problem.

Mental illness is NOT cured or effectively treated by beatings, ice-baths, lobotomies, shouting and arguing, prison, wishful thinking, or burning sage.

It is a medical condition - in the same way that diabetes is a medical condition - and responds in most cases to medical intervention.

If your folks have not had your brother evaluated recently by a psychiatric professional, please urge them to do so for everyone's sake.

The solution for you - as you indicated - is getting your own place.

I get on these forums about once in every 4 or so hours, and troll for about an hour or so. First thing my "supposed" brother says is, "Guns are bad, and should be destroyed. When I run for president, I'm going to order all guns smelted and make this a communist nation."
I suspect he might be just jerking your chain, trying to get a rise out of you. That doesn't sound like someone advocating a deeply held belief, IMO.
