Anyone else get a bunk DSA FAL?

Out of curiosity, have you ever tried any other kind of ammo? Why not hit the local sporting goods shop and pick up a couple of boxes of good quality hunting .308 and see how it runs?

Took my brand new DSA STG58 to the range last week. I was alternating between Federal XM762D and the Lithuanian stuff, testing them for accuracy from a bench.

The day ended abruptly because of a serious jam, and while I had the manual with me, the elusive "pogo" technique is not in it. :neener: I learned about that afterwords on FalFile.

It happened to be the Federal, not the Lith. that jammed for me. I probably fired 40+ rounds through it before it jammed. I definitely have the "front-to-back scoring/lines on the brass of extracted cartridges" mentioned earlier in this thread, and I'll gently apply some sand paper (as instructed) before my next trip to the range -- and bring some with me.

It is an expensive rifle, and while some have referred to it as a peace-time toy, others may have bought it with the thought in the back of their minds (or the front, depending on the person), that it may save their life someday. I don't expect to be able to grab an untested rifle out of the box and have it be 101% reliable... but I do expect that any tweaking necessary should be minor, and that within one or two trips to the range and somewhere near or less than 100 rounds of ammo, the gun should be cycling reliably. That's been my experience, and I believe a reasonable expectation.

I have every confidence that mine will run fine before long, and since my life is not relying on it, I look forward to the process of breaking it in and smoothing it out.
