Anyone having problems with Remington Golden Bullet .22 Bonus Pak from Wal-Mart?

Remington's .22 ammo is the worst on the market. If you're getting a 10% failure rate, consider yourself lucky.

I stick with CCI, it's fairly inexpensive, accurate enough for practice and most of the competitive shooting I do, runs well in both pistols and rifles, and of the 4,000+ rounds of it I fire in a year, I have very, very few misfires.

My wife and I have gone through at least 4 boxs of the value packs shooting a Ruger 22/45.

We had only one dud and that came out of the last box we bought. I guess it is luck of the draw.

Remington Thunderbolts and CCI Blazer are my plinking brands of choice.

I also like the CCI Velocitor Hollow Points.

This is all in .22 LONG RIFLE of course

(not long or short)

Filthy filthy filthy ammo

I bought some for the cute collector tin and also liked the fact that there were individual boxes of 50 in the pack.

We used that to try to teach mom how to shoot
As was said before the first five or so rounds failed to fire of the next five the sound range went from magnum to silenced.

Got my first barrel blocking squib in thirty years when mom took her first pistol shot in her life with a H&R 949. If I had not been standing next to her she would have shot again.
After that she made polite excuses and went back inside. It took a month to get her to shoot again

The bullets not only spin in their cases they can be wobbled back and forth to the point you swear you could just pull them out with a little more effort.

In this case you actually don't get what you pay for. They aren't even suitable as cheap plinkers.
When you figure price per actual working round you would be better off buying premium match ammo

I'm not at all impressed with Remington's .22 Golden ammo. My Trailside choked on them more than any other .22 ammo I've used. Many, many duds. Bullets seated extremely loosely in the case. I probably wouldn't buy these again, no matter how cheap.

BTW, I got my 550 pack at Bass Pro, not Walmart.

Just came back from the range, with my 10/22, and fired maybe 200 rounds, and no misfires, or anything....Bought mine from Dicks a couple of years back...
Maybe they had a bad run lately.........

I stopped buying that stuff as well, lots of feed issues and FTEs. I use CCI Minimags for my MkII now and have very few problems. I also had problems with the Thunderbolts.

I shot off about three hundred rounds from a brick of that a little over a week ago: I had more than three FTF(ire)s due to missing primer compound - removed the rounds and re-inserted them in different position, and they fired. Thankfully, no hangfires nor other such problems.

I'm not sure whose fault this was, but the barrel of the NAA mini-revolver I was using was almost completely lined with lead at the end of the day (hey, it was my first time with a revolver), to the point where your average cleaning rod end had to be forced naked into the barrel. o_O

I always have problems with Remington Golden Bullet. Either it requires multiple strikes or the cartridge bends at an odd angle where the bullet and case mouth meet. Fortunately I haven't had any squibs, yet. I've had problems with Federal Lightning and Remington Thunderbolt as well, but Golden Bullets are the worst of the three. I've had great luck with the Winchester Super X and CCI, so I stick with them. Cost is about the same so why invite trouble?

My semi auto .22s seem to function best with this. Perhaps the problem lies in your Ruger. The hammer spring might be weak or there might be a lot of crud built up in the firing pin channel.

Wal-Mart Ammo...Always!

Same problem no matter which .22 we use it in...10/22, Marlin 60, Henry lever action. Very inconsistent performance. Probably 1 in 30 or so a dud or squib.

Sure SOUNDS like recent problem. Ive had GREAT performance from the Rem.
Federal will NEVER see one of my guns again in ANY caliber.
For REAL shooting, I would still use the CCI, but for plinking I havent found any better than the REmengton.

Unless this is something new.

***UPDATE***

Per many peoples advice I went out and bought a brick of CCI ammo. While it was expensive, $29.99 for a brick , I have to say it performs great!

No more feed trouble, SUPERB accuracy, but best of all is the super quiet report these rounds have. I live on 16 acres out in the sticks and can shoot whatever I want from pistols right up through my Garands but I still don't want to annoy my neighbors. The Remington rounds had an almost Magnum sound to them. The CCI's have a very quiet pop. Hardly more than a supressed rifle! I highly recommend them.

Thanks to all who said how much they like them. No more Remington for me.

Some Wal-Marts have Winchester Dynapoints for around $11 a bulk pack. It's the most consistent bulk pack ammo I've used in my sporter rifles and pistols. Winchester Power Points, and Super X ammo, CCI SV, and SGB are all pretty good.

For match ammo, it's hard to beat Eley and Lapua.

I abandoned Rem GBs about a decade ago because of radical inconsistency in performance. I settled on the Winchester Super-X 40gr solid because it performs well across the board with all my 22s. About $15 to $20 per 500rds. Recently I took my new CZ 452 out with about 20 different types of ammo to see what it preferred. To my chagrin, Remington Golden Bullet was the most consistently performing round I tried. I was hitting a 3"x4" metal flag at 100 yards 3 out of 5 tries with open sights.

Go Figure.

Same problem with Wallyworld Rem 550 22. BUT, My old Mossberg 151 shoots it without a hitch:confused: . My Marlin Papose misfires > 1 to 10:cuss: . Strornger firing pin?:scrutiny:

To me, they are all pretty much the same, the Golden Bullets, Federal, and Dyna points, all the cheap bulk packs work about the same, a few duds here and there, I haven't found one brand much different from another.

Remington

After buying 2 boxes at WM, I will no longer buy Remington .22 ammo. Having 40 duds in 550 is not acceptable to me. They have poor quality control. This was using a S&W model 22 & Ruger 10/22. I tried to fire them again in the other gun and again no fire. I used to use CCI Mini Mags in my dad's old Stevens .22, circa 1940. That was the only ammo that would always fire and eject. I bought a few thousand rounds years ago and am now down to about 400 left. I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay more for them, if I can find any in stock anywhere. I use CCI Blazer Brass, UMC 250 box, & Winchester 100 WB in .40 & 9mm with no problems with any of them.

Recently tried out an AR15 .22 conversion unit. The Remington bulk pack absolutely would not work. Many failures to feed (bullet often ended up "bent"). Federal bulk pack had zero failures, as did Aguila 60 grain subsonic, both worked absolutely perfectly. Then tried the Remington in the S&W 22a, it fed OK but had better than 10% rate of "duds" despite good firing pin impressions. Won't buy it anymore, that's for sure.

I bought a box of 525 to shoot in my Remington 597. I had a misfire in nearly every magazine. I am never going to use these rounds again. Emailed Remington Customer Service and never got a reply from them.

I'm back to CCI for .22 shells.

I have outstanding results out of Rem GB's. I have had several autoloaders that would only feed it reliably, and I have not had any issued with it in close to ten different 22's other than maybe one failure per brick at worst.

Its terrible how loose they are in their cases. Dirty stuff, but hey you got to clean it anyway.

Some rimfires I have gobble the stuff up, others won't play with it - I have the same issues with Fed. bulk in various guns. Overall I find it to be an average of about 5% dud rounds, sometimes higher.

And yet I still can't even find golden bullet packs on the shelf every time I look in recent months.
