Anyone know what Springfield is up to with the "Saint"

It's beyond frustrating and I'm betting it's killing all other weapons sales right now. I'm in the market for a new weapon and am holding off until I see the Saint reveal. Surely, I'm not the only one.
Eh, get something new now to tide you over, then get the SAINT in 2-3 months, when there is actually a supply. That way, you get double the pleasure ;)

This came in my email today:

On November 1st, Springfield Armory will release a new line of firearms designed for those who rely on instinct above distraction.

So I'm guessing from this it doesn't have sights?
....rely on instinct, not distraction? What the hell does that mean? Who relies on distraction? That makes no sense.

Criminal approaches: "Give me your money!"
In my mind: "I better act like I'm getting my wallet to give to him, and then I'll draw my gun and............... Oh! A sparkly thing!"
Me: "I'm sorry, what did you say?"

Friends don't let friends be beta testers.

I imagine that anyone who knows has been sworn to secrecy. Else they'll cease learning any future secrets.

I predict failure.....
That's the spirit! Let's start bashing before we even know what it is.

Would the ole sour pusses bemoaning every new thing and every marketing scheme be better satisfied if gunmakers stopped innovating, stopped trying to bring in new shooters and just went out of business???

The ad campaign must be aimed at a segment of the market I am not sure exists -- Those who buy their weaponry for chic rather than functionality and effectiveness.

That ain’t me. The pretend” suspense hits a sour chord like newscasts that tease news and go to commercial without actually giving you news.

I own and love Springfield guns, but this one is going to have to sell me sometime after the launch date.

They took one page out of the Samsung mobile phone marketing playbook ... but forgot another key page: a strategic leak of a teaser or two just to keep the audience engaged. The big tease is cute for a while, but the market gets impatient pretty quickly... Unless they have something earth shattering (I think not), they're running the risk of the market saying "meh" ... Still, they have several gun forums pondering about it, so its got them some marketing traction already.

Personally I believe it is a line of AR15’s because it is the only thing that is popular at the moment that that they do not build and it would add to their three gun program.

The M14/M1A is still selling but not as well and with this election it is all about the AR being evil and many in the gun world feel it is the Holy Grail to defend the people.

I may be totally off as I do not know it is just my thoughts.

General characteristics[edit]

The English word "saint" comes from the Latin "sanctus", in origin a word in indigenous tradition connected to the Roman god Sancus.[citation needed] The word translated the Greek "ἅγιος" (hagios), which derives from the verb ἁγιάζω (hagiazo), which means "to set apart", "to sanctify", or "to make holy".[8][verification needed] The word ἅγιος appears 229 times in the Greek New Testament, and its English translation 60 times in the corresponding text of the King James Version of the Bible.[9]

It does get us talking but I think they are walking a very thin line. If their products do not match the hype, they'll suffer in the long term. I also think they are marketing to the younger, not as gun savvy, market. Like it or not, they are the future of the gun world and the more they get embraced, the better it will be in 20-30 years when the old and crusty gun people have moved on.

Once upon a time, some (many) of us were younger and not as gun savvy. Such is the circle of things. If this attracts a new crowd of folks interested in SD and/or the shooting sports, so much thw better. The marketing strategy probably won't, but hopefully whatever the mystery product may be, it will have draw. I'm starting to wonder if they are coming out with a line of activewear ...

It may have been mentioned and I missed it, but this company has not been around since 1794. This company has nothing to do with the original U.S. Armory at Springfield, Mass. They licensed the name from the old arsenal after the Sec. of Defense Robert McNamara closed it in 1968.

"In 1974, the Springfield Armory name was licensed to Robert Reese, to form Springfield Armory, Inc., a company that manufactures semi-automatic versions of the M14 rifle andM1911 pistol. The company is not located in or near Springfield, Massachusetts and has no direct association with the original Springfield Armory. The current Springfield Armory, Inc., based out of Geneseo, Illinois, manufactures several of its weapons on the exact blueprints and to identical specifications as the original government owned Springfield Armory. Springfield Armory, Inc. has expanded its line of firearms to include modern day sporting rifles and polymer pistols as well as Historical American icons, namely the M14 and M1911."

Aren't those the new guns in the hands of the Lycra and spandex wearing millennials? Or are they characters out of a video game? Where's the grizzled old timer?

Hmmm. What if Springfield Armory made a semi-auto 5.56 rifle that wasn't an AR? Like a smaller, lighter version of their M1A and call it a Mini M1A?

Oh wait a . . .

Uncomfortably enough, as a B-lister in the world of firearms media I know the answer and I can't tell you there are non-disclosure agreements involved I'm sorry I'm so sorry . . .

I will say that a lot of you have voiced your suspicions that it won't be anything earthshaking. There are some smart cookies on this forum . . .

Looking at there line-up, a ultralight pocket carry 380 is a base that's not really covered.
Smith has it's Bodygaurd....

A .380 Mini-XD-S would be awesome, but requires a manufacturing base in the U.S., because these things cannot score enough points to permit importation. They may be able to make a little metal .380, to compete with Kimber Micro and SiG P238, using their 1911 production line. Just re-chamber EMP, cut its slide, install telescopic recoil spring, add a spacer into the magazine, done. But this is probably not the market going forward. Glock 42 put a world of hurt even on the P238, with all of its rainbow colors.

We can dream about Springfield standing up a polymer pistol plant in the U.S. and make all the current line of Chroat guns domestically, but the guy in the thread said that it's not that groundbreaking, so probably not.

P.S. Personally I'm inclined to think that it's probably an AR. The time is right for a re-introduction of that product line. And it's going to have a ton of components subcontracted, at least at first.

P.P.S. Another possibility is that they're putting a red dot on all handguns and call it "a line". Currently they have just one SKU.

Whatever it is, I'm prepared to be under-whelmed but maybe it's something cool.
