My old lady said "I don't care about guns, why are you telling me?" when I asked if she wanted to see my 1st Mosin. Keeping that in mind, I dont bother telling her, though she's free to ask at any time.

My wife signs for all the guns that I order online. My brother, who is in Iraq, usually has me order 2 of anything I'm going to get for myself so he has one too. So when the packages come to the door, I usually mumble something about "my brother sure likes to order a lot of guns" or something like that. She knows there's always one for me and one for my brother, so it's not really lying.

Some hilarious "revelations" here......what a great forum.

My wife and I have three bank accounts, joint, hers and mine. I don't know,(or care) how much money she has and she doesn't care how much I have. We discuss all joint purchases and also any significant personal purchases before buying, just to be open and honest with each other. I keep a gun inventory and she knows where it is, so if she is interested she could always look.

She isn't into hunting or target shooting or plinking - her interest in guns is only self-defense. She has a 9mm S&W semi-auto, and a replacement (Stoeger 800) is on order for her carry pistol. She knows how to shoot the bedside S&W 586, and the Mossberg pump that lives in the corner. I always show her any new gun purchase, and she expresses "appropriate interest" but clearly isn't enthused with old C&R milsurps and is only moderately interested in the rest.

Many years ago I quit smoking but didn't tell anyone. After about 2 weeks my wife noticed and asked about it. I told her I felt if I didn't smoke for a year I could buy a Winchester 101 shotgun. A few days later we were near a gun shop and she suggested that I show her what a 101 looked like. They had the perfect barrel length and chokes in stock. She then cashed her paycheck ( 2 weeks at post offfice as mail deliverer). and bought the 101. "Now", she says, "You may not smoke for a year."

She knows about my guns and hers.

Very up front

I've long moved out from my parents and as such broke the need to ask for permission. Although I have GREAT respect or my wife the fact is I don't need permission to exercise my Second Amendment Right and not even my wife has the right to tell me no. And although I would like her to also engage on the sport of shooting and even carry I can't force her...She's an adult and has to make that decision for her self.

Buying a new car...Well that another story :what:

Totally honest

Heck, Springmom and I have a deal - we take turns. So when I buy a gun, it automatically becomes her turn. When she buys a gun, it becomes my turn.

As long as we're not spending mortgage, retirement, and grocery money on 'em, neither one of us has an incentive to object. :)

My wife really doesn't care!!
The bills get paid,we have some in savings, were sitting pretty for the
"old days". Never sold a gun for less then I paid for it.
Collecting in my mind is an investment. It's the ammo that SUCKS me dry!!!
I buy in bulk, just about every other month, with the high cost of ammo now,
I can laugh all the way to the bank if needed!!!
She's a keeper in my mind!!

Honest about my guns like she was honest about her shoes!

NO FAIR!!! LMAO.....

I wish I had as many guns as shoes!! Hubby thinks I have way too many shoes............. :p

My wife thinks I have too many guns and thought the last purchase was just going overboard. It was an AR-15, and I don't even have any other long guns. But she didn't say much about the Kahr PM40 and the SA XD-45 I bought previously. Everything else I had before we were married. Funny thing is, she didn't blink an eye when I bought a new Harley and she thinks we should get a bigger airplane so we can take the dog and some other things with us.

:scrutiny:

Ummm.....

Depends upon the meaning of the word "honest" (spoken in a Bill Klinton accent).

I did not, however, go shooting with that woman, Ms. Lewinski.

I told my wife before we got married that I was a gun enthusiast, and she could take it or leave it. I have never cowered or apologized for buying a gun, holster, etc. It's the only way to go.

I'm always upfront about this sort of thing. I also use the principle of equal guilt, i.e., a visit to the gun store is followed by a visit to the jewelry store.

No need to be dishonest - I tell the wife what I want, and if it's no, I accept that and wait it out. Eventually she'll come around, why give her reason to distrust you?

'Course, when she finally says "Ok then", she's shocked, shocked, at the speed of the response! I'm talkin' "Honey I'm leaving now for the gun store!"

It is no more necessary for me to tell her about a new gun purchase than for her to tell me about her new purchases. I have my bank account and my paycheck...she has her bank account and her paycheck. We share expenses, e.g., I pay the home mortgage, she pays for the food; we each pay for our own cars, etc. After expenses, each keeps the remainder of their paycheck for whatever we want.

My wife does not care. We have household money, her money, my money. Works out fine. :)

My wife knows about all of my purchases. One was a gift from her, the rest were all bought with "extra" unexpected money or saved over time so nothing to hide, really.

Totally honest, never had to bring a gun in through the back door. Also no problems with any car pruchases or anythins else. One exception was a boat I brought home one nite from a DU Banquet.
Does anyone remember the story about the guy who bought a new gun safe & filled it with BB guns & showed it to his wife? Someone else could tell this better than I can. Long guns all look the same to her. Everytime he bought a new longgun he give away a BB gun to one of the neighborhood kids & replace it with the new gun. Wife busted him after a kid came by & asked her when he could get a BB gun from hubby since most of his friends had.
