USMCSilver/DM:

Since I already have your re-machined scope mount here on my kitchen table, why don't you send me a non-threaded barrel and I'll fire up the big Monarch and thread it for ya...that way I can send everything back in one box.

Since I don't drink soda in bottles, I should be ok :neener:

Im reading unintended consequences right now. Im on page 556, I love it, and the book is scaring me more than enemies. I think Im going to go read my nice safe cryptography book for my final next week and go to bed.

UMCSilver - glad to hear things are working out, well, all things considered. Good luck on that sticker :D

Two points I would Like To Bring Up..

First off.. I own a handgun that has the barrel threaded on both ends. It's a "Dan Wesson". The back end of the barrel threads into the front part of the frame, while the front barrel thread locks the barrel in via a nut. I guess I would be in "Double Trouble" seeing it's threaded at both ends. :D

Also.. If the BATF came to your door and said.. "prove to me you DON'T own a silencer", how could you do it? After all.. you CAN'T prove a negative. As a example.. "I want you to prove to me you DON'T own a submarine." Now I realize none of us own one, but.. "prove to me you don't". You CAN'T!

I guess it's a good thing you had receipts to show what you had bought, or in this case.. what you didn't.

An interesting point, and one more reason to give thanks for living in the U.S. Our legal system forces the prosecution to prove guilt. Under Napoleonic law (for example, Mexico), the accused is guilty unless proven innocent.

So, if I'm understanding correctly, it's illegal to buy a barrel from a company that is outside of the United States? Is it a felony?

A couple of things here, #1) I really enjoyed Unintended Consequences, I've yet to read Enemies Foreign and Domestic but look forward to it. #2) It is illegal to buy a gun barrel from an overseas dealer?

It's illegal to buy a barrel from a company that is outside of the United States...without the proper paperwork.

Just met with the agents and instead of coming home with one thing, I came home with two (and no, one was not the barrel).

So, I just got back from a McDonald's parking not near the interstate. I met with the agent who has been handling the case and then another agent drove up and I was introduced to him. My agent handed me the frame and I handed him the old paperwork. I asked what would happen when a federal background check was done and he said that nothing should cause a snag. This wasn't an arrest and the other guy said that they didn't think headquarters was going to prosecute these cases; they just said that cooperation was key and that was basiclly the end of it.

My agent was working outta the back of his Yukon filling out a new paper stating that I only surrender the frame for me to sign and I popped the question -- "Do you guys offer any internships?" He said yes and I knew the answer to the next question but I asked anyway, "And who would I speak to about one?" Of course, since he is the recruiter for the area, he said that he'd be the one.

To make a long story short, I basically have an application packet coming in the mail and an interview at the local office. So, that's the other thing I came home with -- an interview that could lead to an internship which could ultimately lead to a job after school or just look super great on a resume.

Again, all in all, this was a good experiance. Lawyer my ass! Cooperation, an invitation, and a smile goes a long way. This little fau paux may be the best thing that ever happened to me; ya just never know...

"Luke, I am your Father. Come to the Dark Side!"

For some reason that line popped into my head after I read USMCsilver's last post! :neener:
You know we're going to give you a hard time about this one!!

Are they only after barrels? I bought some magazines from this kaehny joker and I don't even have some of them any more. I bought 2 Steyr SPP and 3 MK23 mags. The SPP mags went with the gun when I sold it on gunbroker. Anyone heard of the ATF going around taking mags too?

Dont do the victory dance

Sorry to poop on your parade. But if what you did is technically illegal. And they have the eveidence, along with your acknowledgement. You did sign something claiming barrel was your ..right?
Then the answer "we dont think you will be prosecuted" is not good enough
good luck.
They can prosecute you and if they want to they will.

Boofus, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think what you did was illegal as well... They were probably hi-caps, too, weren't they?

If you are on the list as someone who has received a shipment from this guy, then you will probably get a visit or a call. I had a guy e-mail me about a letter he received and requested my phone number. I talked to him about it and he is going to let me know how it goes after he calls the ATF. Good luck.

why_me, I understand where you are coming from and I know what could happen. I'm just gonna keep my fingers crossed. I honestly don't believe that they'd go through all the trouble for a barrel, but I don't know. I assume there'd be a trial, and if so, well, I think I would get off because I legitimately didn't know and the agents who I have dealt with seem fully aware of that. I also assume that they would be present and put in a good word. Who knows? I just know that if it does come to that, I'll have a lawyer at that time. ;)

USMC... you did good...allot to be said, for knowing the difference between winning a battle ...and winning the war ! parts back, and a new door open, Merry Christmas. Arc-Lite

What is "the proper paperwork"? I just ordered a gun barrel from Impulse Gun Barrels in Austria ... only paperwork that was required from me was to send them a copy of a photo id (and this was to satisfy Austrian law).
