ATF going door to door

I get two messages from the video.

1) They were super nice and friendly. Look everybody the ATF are nice guys!!!:scrutiny:

2) They came relatively heavy for such a "just checking" type of thing. I'm sure not to intimidate anyone but be sure to move slow and don't reach for your cell phone too quick.:scrutiny:

Who controls the ATF or gives them direction?

Having had a FFL years ago, a form has to be filled out and sent in to the ATF when ever multiple pistols are purchase at the same day or within 5 days of each other. This requirement is also for the sale of multiple rifles within a 5 day period in the states of Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas. There are no "if's", "and's". or "but's" about it, a FFL must submit the form. And yes the FFL must include the serial numbers of all firearms purchased when filling out the ATF Form 3310.4.

Here is the link to the ATF regulations on this. https://www.atf.gov/firearms/reporting-multiple-firearms-sales

And here is a link to the actual form 3310.4 https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/f...pistols-and-revolvers-atf-form-33104/download

Now to the situation in the video. We don't know all of the circumstances. But from what I saw, the officers/agents were polite and doing their job. Again we don't know the whole situation and the person might have been making many multiple hand gun purchases over time which definitely would have gotten attention.

I'm not stating my opinion on this without knowing all of the facts.

This is speculative garbage.

The narrator speculates the guy didn’t buy all the guns at once but he does not know that. I don’t want the ATF on my porch either, but creating the existence of some shadow database from this guy’s speculation is irresponsible.
Agreed

I did not get to see whether the homeowner returned with the guns or not, ending missing. Boo.

That's what I wanted to see also. Did he show the guns and they left? I'm guessing he showed them and they left without incident...

How many did he buy? 2 or 7? If someone is buying 7 guns at a time and it's an area where straw purchases happen frequently, I'm glad they are out trying to reduce criminal behavior. The gun community always shouts that we need to "enforce existing laws" and then they start enforcing existing laws we freak out even more.

It's kind of overkill to show up with 3 agents dressed in tactical gear but if something went down 3 guys could get outnumbered quickly.

It appears they have started using that non existent gun registry....
No, they are using the Multiple Sale of Pistols & Revolvers form that is sent to ATF and the buyers CLEO when two or more handguns are transfered during five of the dealers business days.
It's a new form and process. Only been around since 1968.

Only thing they can do to me is contact me by mail and inform me that they would like to inspect my nfa items, which I will happy comply with.
Any other matters I will refer them to my lawyer.
Nonsense.
They can knock on your door every day for a month if they want. It's not a search, that requires a warrant.

Is it two or more handguns they have to report ?

Or just any 2 guns?

It is two or more handguns. Unless you live in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas. If you live in one of those four states the sale of multiple rifles within the 5 day period must also be reported.

See the links I posted earlier in post #8

Dogtown types faster than I do

I had a Type 2 Pawnbroker FFL so I didn't do many sales that included multiple handguns. But when I did, I definitely had to submit a Form 3310.4 each and every time. This has been law since 1968.

Oh, Jeez.

My very first purchase as an individual was a pair of semiauto ARs in addition to five different Glocks.

Didn't have my Concealed Pistol Permit yet, during that time.

Apparently, Delaware is the epicenter of that dreaded "I-95 Corridor" responsible for all those (alleged) illegal guns being run into the nanny states of NY, NJ and MD.

Not even uniformed officers? Sorry, come back later in uniforms and marked vehicles, and oh, by the way... bring a warrant.

Guy bought seven (7) guns since January 2022 and the ATF came a callin' ...

Wait? Only seven guns? In six months?

Um, er, uh oh!

I swear, it's all too easy to make videos any more . . .

BATFE has a limited number of employees. Only a small subset of those are "field agents" in the way the "gun community" imagines them. Certainly not enough to even have one for every of the ±3000 Counties in the US, let alone the imagined "behind every blade of grass" the flame warriors are convinced of.

Sigh,

Guidance from the legal eagle folks at Firearms Policy Coalition on the topic:

If a LEO / federal agent contacts you, tell them you want to speak with a lawyer first
—then SHUT UP and call a lawyer!

- DO NOT talk to them about anything
- DO NOT open doors
- DO NOT leave your home or go outside
- DO NOT consent to searches
