Auto or Revolver for you?

I own more revolvers because I consider Smiths "collectible", but I only shoot a couple of them regularly. I have less semi-autos overall, but the few I have I shoot them more often.

I love them both
There's just something about a Model 60 snubnose in my hand that no semiauto can do.
Just fits my hand perfect. Growing up
Id always stare at my dads colt detective on his waist day in day out and have loved them since.
It always had and always will have a place in my heart and arsenal.

I own both, prefer to carry semi-autos for capacity and trigger. I do carry my SP101 on occasion though.

My wife prefers revolvers and carries a LCR. She's more comfortable with revolvers for whatever reason. I won't complain. At least I have her carrying.

Unless one wants handgun for hunting the Glock has made revolver obsolete.
Will only if glock would make a single stack. for a small pocket pistol glock is too thick, a jframe on the other hand is just right.

I have both. The autos ride along on trips to the city, while the revolvers are there on trips to the woods or out fishing. The .357 and .44 mag are less dangerous to carry out where the bears or mountain lions are not likely to shoot back. Carrying concealed attracts less attention from hikers, as well.

Own both and like both. I do have a slight preference for my wheel gun (SW 586 4") when I'm at the range, although I really like my Walther PPK/S too (380 auto).

Both, but I find that service autos are more size efficient than service revolvers.

I prefer a revolver for woods carry.
I prefer a 1911 10mm auto for self-defense/concealed carry.

Ain't it great to have choices?

Life is too short to choose. Autos are generally easier to clean, but I feel like we all need to spend a little more time with our firearms, so to me it becomes a non-issue.

some people are cat people, some people are dog people, some own both
I (like most posters) own both autoloaders and revolvers

but I mostly own/shoot revolvers and own only dogs
(cats are for the dogs to chew on, or be shot at, depending on size of cat) ;)

Must confess I'm always bouncing back and forth between my Colt 1911's and a 4'' GP100. Great sidearms both. The one consistency I do have is an SP101 that is my ever present back-up.

You're the first one to get it right!

1911 nomenclature:

Formal designation as of 1940 was Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911 for the original Model of 1911 or Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911A1 for the M1911A1, adopted in 1924. The designation changed to Pistol, Caliber .45, Automatic, M1911A1 in the Vietnam era.

It depends on the flavor of ice cream I crave that day.

My current carry rotation:

5" Kimber Stainless TLE II
4" Springer Officer's Frame
4" Security Six
3" SP101

I started out preferring revolvers, but have been converted to the auto side. My first gun was a S&W 686 4 inch. I love it. In SA it is probably more accurate than any handgun that I own. I have other revolvers as well, but find I never shoot them anymore.

I prefer the capacity of autos. Autos are now almost as reliable as revolvers. To me, I see no benefit to revolvers anymore. I do think they are better looking though. That said, if I knew the world was turning into "The Book Of Eli" or "Mad Max" type situation, I'd want a revolver. A good revolver is bulletproof and less likely to need a gunsmith.

I don't do competitions or hunting, so all of my guns are dual-purpose plinking and HD. So for a full-size gun, I figure I have a choice between 19 9mm or 6-8 .38s, so I'll take an auto.

For a pocket gun, I've got a much thinner, shorter, and shorter (different dimensions of shorter, length and height) gun in a Ruger LCP than I do in a Ruger LCR. So...auto.

I do like a revolver for IWB carry under a T-shirt, but overall I'm not too enamored with revolvers, and am likely to only get a couple, while I intend on getting several autos.

Well I must say that I am a bit disappointed to hear my revolvers a no longer modern. Thanks Glock!:banghead:
So does that mean that glocks are no longer modern as we have the judge and the governor.:what:
Not even the all great and powerful glock can do what they can do.:neener:

I don't see any appeciable difference between one or the other. It all comes down to size/weight. I shoot big revolvers and autos well. I don't shoot small, lightweight-for-caliber revolvers or autos as well.

The main difference is that with revolvers, I come home with all my brass.

A good revolver is bulletproof and less likely to need a gunsmith.
Nah, I'd take a Glock any day. Let a revolver get wet, and you'll see how difficult it is to dry/clean/relube. Or you'll see how bulletproof it really isn't when you get surface rust or simply run out of lube on the internal parts. Not to mention, first time you drop it with the action open, you could put it out of commission.

Definitely semis for me but I have had an absolute itching lately for a nice revolver just to add to my modest collection and for the range. I like handguns (firearms in general) for historical reasons as well as PD/HD so it only makes sense to have a few of both. Conversely, for CCW it's all business and you select the appropriate firearm accordingly which for me is a semi (most of the time a P11).

-Cheers

I prefer autos, but I'm in my 20s and have rarely shot a revolver. Both are fun, but for my needs and ammo budget a 9mm is the practical choice.

Depends on how many legs the possible target has, autoloader for two legged and revolver for four legged types. Just kidding... mostly. I like both kinds. Pistols are what I carry when needing to conceal a gun and my Model 29 goes openly into the woods.

I grew up on 1911's and J-frame Smiths.I like both revolvers and semi-autos,shoot both well and will carry what ever fits the bill for any given day.YMMV.tom.
