I am in the Army Reserves. Our facility is owned on the civilian side of things, and is used by them (DA) during the week. Their Contract with the armed security expired and it was not renewed as of yet. So, they let some of us use US Army time to pull guard duty. Sans Weapons. They paid an armed guard, but soldiers are too dangerous to walk around with weapons or it is too much trouble to get ammo. Of course, since it is Federal property; we can not bring our own either. Only wackenhut is trained well enough to guard US Army property I guess. :banghead:

Sounds familiar. I considered attempting to try to get any of the reserves to take me back at my advanced age but lost any motivation when I read of your story and many like it. My big mouth would get me into too much trouble if I went back into the service with stuff like that. I eventually learned that sarcasm is NOT my friend no matter how clever I thought I was being...

C.S.S. I guess you need an MP reserve unit to protect things lol. I think there is one in Topeka, KS. ROFLMAO, maybe you should apply to get an armed guard liscense from your state.

what did you expect from a gov buerocracy? you know how many forms would be needed to issue you a gun, ammo, and such?
They arent going to risk a papercut and 10 minutes of sorting gear to give you a chance against infiltration squads of,,, ninja magazine subscription sellers....

When I was XO of a Basic Training company at Ft. Knox in the early '80s, they withdrew all of the .45acp ammunition as out of date, without first issuing new ammunition. That meant that for the upcoming payday, none of the pay officers (the XOs) would have ammunition for their M1911A1s. We were given the option of carrying M16s (not bloody likely) or providing our own ammunition. I went the Bn XO one better and carried my own M1911 AND my own ammunition, hot 200gr. Hornady jacketed semi-wadcutter handloads.

I agree with you Titan, that is how they think, but if they trust an armed guard but not us... I mean I pulled hundreds of hours of Armed Guard duty overseas (Kuwait). I am probably cheaper than the armed guard to boot.

Actually Rob if you are AD you likely make at least double what the Guard does in compensation and that does not include training value. You are already an asset on hand but that is not the point. The trust issue is different it is easier to fire a guard (or contractor) and defuse a situation then to court martial someone who made a dumb mistake.

Ive been active for 6 years now, the longer I stay in, the more convinced I am, of the necessity of a small, limited federal government. Beauracracy overlapping over other beauracracies is a recipe for fraud, waste, abuse and catastrophic failures. Common sense has been replaced with CYA policies and image over substance.
