"Reloading will save you money!"
A variation on that in 2009 has been; "if you can't find any .380acp, you need to start reloading!".
Which would be great except it was easier to find loaded ammo than it was to find .380acp dies and components. ;)
.

Heh-heh!

"As for the 1/2 inch group thing, I know an ex-Marine sniper"

Ha ha Funny

I knew that phrase was gonna get me a razzin! ;)

"I know a guy who has a friend/brother/uncle/cousin that use to know someone who was a xxxx(insert overly exaggerated military unit here). Not that I'm discrediting any branch of our military, I love 'em all for everything that have done to allow me to keep my freedoms, but the friend of a friend of a guy who knew this one guy, seriously if you're gonna make up the story you may as well tell it like you were that guy.

I was a Special forces Paratrooper Sniper in WW1 and was with Teddy on San Juan Hill, and I could shoot 1/4" 5 shot groups with my 30-40 Krag anytime I wanted too. I also have a pink and black belt in the martial arts and if you guys don't stop making saccastic comments about us Special Ops guys, I 'm going to kick some serious butts...especially if they let me out of here. :)

If we're also including generally overused phrases that seem to saturate the forum world...

...this might be a dumb question...
...but I digress...
...use the search function...
...hilarity ensued...
LOL
ROTFLMAO

Possibly, and in regards to some subjects, absolutely, but it is often posted too hastily and is left without any further direction.

Example, my dad is always asking me to look up stuff on the internet because he doesn't seem to know how to do a Google search. I actually got him to join a forum once, but he didn't have the patients to learn all the features and left after asking one question. Some in his generation can manage to create a post, but manipulating the search function is like rocket surgery(no offense to those who obviously can).

I've seen a guy create a thread in Rifle Country and ask a question something like re-staking a gas key, and the first reply tells him to go over to AR15.com and look there.

I like to think that this site is the best the internet has to offer on all firearm related things, but a lot of folks here would rather send new members to search through other sites than to put the information together for them here. When a simple question is asked, I'd rather post links to threads, post the info off the top of my head, or link to sites that have the info, than to simply type, "Use the search function. This has been discussed a billion times". If it has in fact been discussed, I'll link to a few of the threads.

Sure, what I meant was that instead of redirecting to a thread with ongoing or complete discussion on the topic, a new 4-5 page thread appears because people want to be nice and answer the question. Now when someone else who comes along that DOES know how to search, he/she gets a dozen pages all talking about the same thing. That makes finding the right information harder.

When linking to previous topics, I'll add the search parameters I used to get the answers. "Teach a man to fish..."

Or it makes that much more good information available.

You assume it couldn't all be there in a smaller number of threads with more posts?
That is why "merge threads" is an option available to mods.

"My cheap xxxx is just as good as the expensive xxxx"

"When people are dying in the streets you'll believe me"
(used by nearly everyone on both sides of any gun control conversation)

"Killing power," "Knockdown power," "Stopping power," etc.

"They just did that to make it cheaper to produce"
(Usually on post #3 of a 5 page thread about any new design change, cf Win Model 70 post 64)

Any "What's the best gun for ..." thread seems to draw an inordinate amount of stupidity and BS.

If it's a good shoot - you don't have to worry about going to court.

OOPS- here's the DA - come for you.

Actually reloading can save you money if you cast boolits. I am reloading a hundred rounds at the cost of powder and primers only. Have about $500 in all my reloading gear including casting stuff. Didn't take to many boxes of ammo to justify it and I am shooting with a smile, and more often.

AS far as comments, I like the

"One shot killer, no matter where you get hit" quotes
"Will knock him out of his shoes"
"Don't even need to aim a shotgun"

"Rack a shotgun, the perp will wet their pants."

"The AK is the most rugged battle rifle today."

"The M16 is a jammomatic."

'My (little) caliber is better than your (big) caliber."

"Home Defense guns can't overpenetrate or you'll kill your family."

"Help me chose between X and Y." Oh please, just send us your credit card in a passaround. You can trust us. Really.

"Can't hit the broad side of a barn, from the inside"

BTW "but if any man could ever be described as a bimbo, it's him."
Bimbo as I have understood the word was first a British term meaning a silly or inconsequential fellow, but Wiki has another spin on it,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bimbo

"why fix what ain't broken" --famous reply of uniformed rednecks the world over

"yer just payin' for the name"--folks that are trying to justify buying a pos

"if it was good enough for my dad/grandpa/buddy thats an spec ops dude its good enough for me"--folks that don't believe the world has any room for innovation or improvement

"Hey guys, you really need to vote in this poll USA Today has on their website!"

Yeah, nevermind that the poll is from 2007.

Some of the ones I've seen:

"Reloading will eliminate any concerns about ammo availability". It will if you stock a ton of components before a shortage. But then again, you can also stock a ton of loaded ammo before a shortage. Nothing about reloading directly impacts your ability to have common calibers during a shortage. Stockpiling does. If you are trying to buy components or equipment during a shortage you are just as screwed as if you are trying to buy loaded ammo. Ask me how I know.

"It is a solution looking for a problem". This statement is applied by someone to any new product that comes out. If something doesn't work for you, or you are unwilling to try new things, fine. But keep in mind that your pet whatever was new at one time, and some moron out there definitely stated that it was a solution looking for a problem.

"'Accidential Discharge' implies no human error or negligence." No it doesn't. Read the #1 definition of "accident" until it sinks in.

Accuracy claims. I'm in the camp that thinks they are exaggerated on the internet. Either straight up lies, or someone routinely volunteers the information on the single best three round group they have ever shot, and represents that as a consistent number. OR.... I've been at a 100yd range more than once with the following conversation transpiring on the bench next to me:

"How far is that berm?"

"Must be damn near 300 yards!!!"

"Man we're good!"

" If you don't break the barrel in by religiously cleaning every X shots for Y rounds, you will ruin the gun"

This is my personal favorite

"My buddy/uncle/dad/brother/wife/sig other in the Army/Navy/Air Force/Marines said . . ." and it's necessary to believe it? You sure they weren't jerking your chain? Feeding BS to wannabe's is a national sport, you know. Just check with a local street racer.

"I'm trying to chose between two civilian third world battle rifles designed 50 years ago for a tactical use SHTF weapon, which one?" Epic Fail, dude, the zombies eat good today.

"Can I get those tactical operator go to war end of the world as we know it combat pants/hoodie/web gear in XXXL?" Put down the Mountain Dew, keyboard, and joystick, go run a 5K. You will live long enough to see what the Army might replace the M4 with.

"I don't want to use that $1 a round caliber, the ammo is too expensive." It's a non military issue wildcat. What did you expect? And have you compared it to others? No, or it would be obvious all premium ammo is $1 a round. In fact, what price is your life worth, right? You want to defend it with .25c a round reject surplus? Out of a 50 year old battle rifle from a third world country?

Epic Fail, dude, them zombies get supper, too.

I'm trying to chose between two civilian third world battle rifles designed 50 years ago for a tactical use SHTF weapon, which one?

Um the Browning .50 cal machine gun, AK-47, SKS, M-14, BAR....etc.... were all designed more than 50 years ago. M-16 40 years ago. Granted not all are readily available to civilians but can be had.

Unless you are talking about the Mosin nagant VS. Mauser threads then I am 100% on your side:D:D:D
