Best way to get C&R rifles

The best way is probably to have one of your parents get a C&R FFL and order the guns. Then depending on local laws, they can give or transfer the firearms to you.

...what is the cheapest method to purchase curio and relic files?

If its files you want I would recomend garage sales or the library. If its rifles you want ,any purchase from someone in your state should be straight forward. Check gun shows ,auctions, news paper ads, etc. You will probably pay more than wholesale but if you do your home work and know what your looking at you can find some good deals. Also let people know what your interested in ,you would be amazed at what some people have lying around. I got a great deal on an Enfield no4 mk1 this way.

Get yourself a Shotgun News.

They come out 3 times a month.

With all due respect, No disrespect intended, but C&R weapons are purchased by the licensee (yes, one who is duly licensed). There's no provision for straw purchases.

I don't know about your state, but in my state transfering from parent to child isn't a straw purchace. It's how i obtained 3 handguns before my 19th birthday (18 was a good year).

Now, in regard to your parents getting a C&R and giving it to you, i believe you must do everything in order to "enhance your collection" if you have a c&r, so, them giving you the rifle might just be asking for an audit. Rules change once you have an FFL. I think your best bet is just to pay the transfer fee with an 01FFL

Or your parents could get the C&R and own the guns but you get to use them all the time...if you still live at home I don't see that as being a problem at all. Plus, once you buy the gun you can dispose of it any legal way you want to. He's 18, so it is legal to sell him the gun and it will all be instate.

I am not a lawyer...so don't blame me if I am an idiot and you go to jail!

You could ask one of your parents to get a C&R. They maintain possesion of the rifles, you can borrow them whenever you want. Get your own licence when you are old enough. When their licence expires in 3 years, they can dispose of their bound book(03 FFLs don't have to keep them like 01 FFLs do) and transfer which ever ones you want to you. Make sure to duly note the aquisitions in your bound book.

That would not be a straw purchase as you would be legal to accept them. It would not be dealing because they would not be making a profit of any kind.

Of course, that plan has one flaw. They may just want to keep the C&R and all the cool rifles! :D
