Bluff Gun???

Is she hesitant about shotguns? Maybe she'd see a long arm as less sinister/scary than a pistol. For example, long arms don't have decades of Hollywood depicting them as "going off" when dropped.

Take her to the range and borrow or rent a 20 gauge, and see how she does expressing her inner Annie Oakley.

Else: go the pepper spray route. Since it's home defense, don't get the wimpy little purse-sized model. Instead, get a can of bear spray. The real deal that's the size of a small fire extinguisher. Fun fact: since she's a woman, she'll better be able to deal with the pain from blowback/overspray.

Plus, she has a strong startle/flight reflex and would not do well with a firearm in a self defense situation.

If she won't do well with a real firearm. she'll probably do even less well with a "Bluff Gun" she knows can't protect her.

She needs a real means of defense. My daughters and my wife all carry some good quality OC with them. Fortunately they've never had to use it.

Some good OC pepper spray (with dye), a loud whistle or personal alarm, and a cell phone. It's not the same deterrent as a S&W Model 60LS but it's a good alternative.

I still like the Taser C2, it has a built in flashlight, 15 foot range, laser site, and cartrige reloads.
