GEORGIA, GO DAWGS!
Both are better handgunners than any of us will ever be. Which is faster/better? I respect both of these men as they are nothing less than gentlemen. Let's have a fun discussion.

I've seen Miculek and can't imagine anybody being better. To be fair I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Munden at work but I just can't imagine that he could be better. :)

you must look up bob mundon on youtube. he shoots three shots from a single action colt peacemaker in less than 1/2 second. Saw him hit a baloon @ 600 yards with a s&w model 29 .44 mag. look him up!

I have only seen them on the idiot box and in some videos, but I don't think I could put one over the other. They are both amazing and fun to watch.

both

Aren't they totally awesome.:) Two of our time; finest handgunners.
Who is better? Dang they both are:):D

I saw bob shoot an asprin tablet in the air with the 45 colt. saw him take a 200 yard shot on a balloon with a s/w .38 snubbie! Jerry is incredible with a 1911 or a da revolver. amazing to watch either of them work.

My money, all of it, would ride on Miculek, personally. He has done things with a DA revolver that I don't know will ever be done again. More than his speed and accuracy is the unbelievable speed he has with his speed loaders. My GOD, I watch him over and over and still can't believe my eyes. He would make TOAST of anyone I know using revolvers against autos. I know some IDPA master class shooters and they can't even PRETEND to be that good. I'm not sure which is more accurate at long range, but for speed/accuracy on any action shooting scenario, I go with Miculek.

Munden is likely better at fast draw and with the single action revolver. Miculek is likely better at speed shooting with DA revolvers and as noted I don't think any living soul can touch his speed with revolver reloads!

Mundon does cooler trick shots with a wide variety of guns. Shooting a needle with a 22 rifle offhand, shooting a playing card LONGWAYS, with a .45, the saccharin tablets in the air. BTW how about Tom Knapp and those benelli's wow! Jerry is so smooth that he almost looks slow. Meaning that his gun handeling is flawless. Smooth is fast.

I'd say that the primary differences in skill are related mostly to what each of them has focused on. Examples: Munden has focused on getting REALLY fast on the draw, he's going to have an edge there. Miculek has focused on getting REALLY fast on revolver reloads, he's going to beat anyone in that area.
Saw him hit a baloon @ 600 yards
Nope, you just THOUGHT you did. ;) You saw him hit a steel plate at 600 yards and because the bullet splattered on the plate and the balloon burst it looks like the balloon was hit.

It's still a VERY impressive shot requiring a lot of practice and an amazing level of skill, but not quite as astounding as it seems at first. In some of the close-up, slow-motion video you can see the bullet strike mark appear on the plate and it's not hitting the balloon. In all fairness, I don't remember his saying that he was trying to hit the balloon, he may have put it there to make it obvious that he hit the plate.

The thing about Jerry is if you see him with a J-Frame, 1911, open shotgun, AR, etc. he is still just as smooth and fast. A tough 3-gun competitor.

Bob Munden is the modern king of the trick shot.

Jerry Miculek is the modern king of the double action revolver.

That is their claim to fames. That said either of them spend so much time shooting a variety of guns that you could give them any gun and have them go shoot any sport and they would excel at it.

But put Munden against Miculek in a ICORE match Miculek wins.
Put Miculek against Munden in shooting a playing card in half out of the air my moneys on Munden.

They have their niches so to speak but are both Kings.

The long range shot with the snub was a bit stacked as the balloon was on a steal plate that was much larger. Any miss that hit the plate slattered the bullet enough to puncture the balloon as JKS stated. (Though I think they did a few takes on it an he actually did hit the balloon in one, IIRC.)

Despite this, Bob is quite fast.

Thw two ballon trick never ceases to amaze me.

I think Jerry Miculek might be the finest all around shooters ever. I am sure you can make plenty of arguments for and against that statement, but if he isn't the best ever, he has got to be pretty close.

Munden is incredible, but I have always viewed him as more of a trick shot specialist. I know he competed in fast draw and what not, but Miculek is nothing but a competitor. Thats not to say Munden isn't flat out awesome, but there are enough difference between the two (aside from the whole SA/DA thing) that it's hard for me to really make a comparison.

One thing I CAN say for absolute certain: If the two ever squared off against each other, it would be the shortest gunfight in history. And, both would be killed.

I know both Jerry and his wife Kay. Excellent shooters each. I'd met Jim Sr. on several occasions and thought very highly of him. I don't know who the other guy is, so I have to vote for Jerry (after all, Jerry delivered my wedding present, a 42 gun Liberty safe).

In an actual competition, such as IPSC, or ICORE, that sort of thing, Jerry, every time. He simply owns the revolver world, and is pretty incredible with anything else he picks up.

Munden, on the other hand, is primarily a trick shooter. Great trick shots don't necessarily mean a great competitor.

Munden has a recorded on video/high speed draw and shoot time of
.02 seconds....thats faster than you can blink. And he hit his target!

He IS the master of the fast draw and trick stuff.....and he shoots SAA Colts.

For DA rev's then Miceluk is absolutely amazing.....

Its apples and oranges......and they are both good!

Shoot well and god bless

I do have to point out that Bob does heavily modify his single actions, specifically for speed (e.g., no disconnect).
