Rex,

but it doesn't get any better than when our efforts are complimented. Thank you glockman19

My pleasure, you and everyone deserve the credit.

You guys are great. Keep it up.

Somebody clue me in. Why would a gun shipped from FFL to FFL in MD be a problem? What state law is causing trouble?

I completely support your decision. IMO, if all gun companies stopped shipping to CA/NY (including not shipping to LEO or .MIL bases located in those states), the gun laws would change rather quickly.
Since when does firearms companies ship guns to .mil? The military does not buy guns based off the state laws, therefore what your requesting is that gun companies stop shipping guns to the military? Now that is smart (sarcasm).

Welcome aboard. I ordered a M&P from you guys and it was a pleasant experience, the price was right too. Had no problems whatsoever, and I live in Kalifornistan!

Welcome to the form Rex! I understand your shipping policies, although I do wish you would send ammo to Illinois, but I can see how keeping copies of our FOID cards could be a pain.

Do you do C&Rs?

Used to be able to buy guns from the PX or the sportsman's clubs on base. I would assume those guns came from the manufacturers or distributors.

I'm with SP, what's the problem...

I am an FFL in MD and had done business with Buds for a year or so when all of the sudden their policy changed. What exactly is the problem from Bud's perspective (beside them not wanting to cross any of the BATFE lines)? Specifically what MD statute is it that Bud's think they would be bumping up against if they ship a handgun to Md?

No specific MD statute. My partner, Bud of Budsgunshop.com, had a friend lose his FFL due to shipping a firearm to MD. They did nothing wrong, and the transferring FFL dealer in MD did nothing wrong either....but the firearm ended up being used in a felony so both FFL's were lost.....legalities not the issue, more politics.

I don't get it. If nobody did anything wrong then what was the beef? There has to be some stated reason for yanking an FFL (two FFLS, no less).

And the state of MD can't pull it. Must have been a federal thing that could have happened anywhere, no?

I'm still mystified. I realize that MD is not a gun friendly state but something is missing from your explanation. "A friend of a friend had such and such happen and nobody did anything wrong" seems less than satisfying. Somebody must have done SOMETHING wrong to have two FFLs get shut down.

How did the gun wind up in a crime? Stolen in shipment? Stolen from receiving dealer?

The gun was obtained legally, and then used illegally by the purchaser....it happens. I guess there is a first time for every felon. Anyway, there was no theft of the firearm or any other exciting story. There was a particular politician in MD that pushed the issue.....and the bandwagon filled quickly. It was the ATF that stepped in and took over. I concede that there may be other versions of the story....but the only version my partner is interested in is the one he got from a trusted friend.

We'll commit to keep any eye on the situation in MD, NY, and new issues pending in DC....but for now we are just playing it safe, too safe for your liking I'm sure.

I cannot emphasize enough that we have nothing against you folks in MD, NY or anywhere else for that matter. God Bless.

welcome

At last count, I believe I have purchased 4 firearms from Buds, My compliments to the management and staff. There was a time when I would have been hesitant to purchase without seeing the merchandise first, but my confidence in Buds takes the worry of problems away.
Keep up the good work.

First Purchase

with Bud's last week. Everything went smooth and seamless. I did everything on the Website and had one quick question. Brandon was very helpful, professional and courteous.

I will have a NIB NRA Ruger Ranch Rifle this week.

Welcome Rex and thanks for participating.

I have delt with Bud's and...

Been more than satisfied. They are home boys (I grew up in L'ville.) But I think that Bud's is doing a disservice to the Md FFLs with what amounts to scaring other dealers away from Md dealers. Who knows, it might happen to anyone that does a legit transfer into Md, ATF just "steps in" and bingo your FFL is gone. No body does anything wrong.
If there is more to the story, when?, what city?, what politician?, name of the convicted felon?, then thanks for the heads up. But so far, I'm with SP, this is all second hand hearsay from trusted friends. Pretty fluffy!
Too bad, you guys were a good outfit to deal with.

I work in a Virginia gun store, and we ship to Maryland dealers at least several times each month... handguns as well as regulated long guns. Maryland requires that NEW handguns be accompanied by a fired shell casing, but other than that there is no problem at all shipping to Maryland, as long as we have a valid FFL from the receiving dealer.

I think it's great that there are dealers out there, including yours bigjohnson, that are comfortable shipping to MD. I would hate to think that our own policies out of a single little gun store in Paris, KY would start a national trend in regards to shipping firearms to MD or NY.

On another note.....I would imagine there are many gun stores out there that appreciate the fact www.budsgunshop.com does not ship to MD, as most do not like to compete with our prices. ....makes MD and NY fair game for everyone else !

shouldn't his quarrel be with the ATF?

Absolutely - and that is where your quarrel needs to be addressed to. Can't blame buds for wanting to stay in business.

Want it to change ? Change the people that are in power in the state you live in, that's a good start. Then get busy on the federal level as well .

Rex and Bud:

Kudos for sticking to your guns (no pun intended) on your shipping policy. Any of your competitors should be glad for it, cause it opens up markets for them.
It is these rediculous restrictions placed on law-abiding businesses and people that make me glad to be out of Cali, but everything is a give and take. I'm not going to guarentee you any business from me, but finding gun-shops (rifles a plenty-hundguns not so) on Whidbey Island, WA is a little on the hard side so who knows.

Didn't Barrett make the decision not to sell 50 cals to anyone(including cops) in California anymore because they banned civilian ownership? That's call consequences for your actions or inactions
.

Not just the 50's but any of their products and services--but that hasn't effected the nut(less) jobs there. To many Marine protestors from the Berkley (?) area have infected the rest of that great state.

Used to be able to buy guns from the PX or the sportsman's clubs on base.

Car Knocker, that must of been quite some time ago. I haven't seen firearms in any stateside PX/BX that I've been to, and we are talking NC, FL, and WA. Granted PX's in IL and CA are obviously not going to have them. Always thought that was funny though. They issued us M-16's and M-9's, but acted as we couldn't be trusted to purchase one of our own on base.:scrutiny:

God Bless all you fellow vets out there! Proud to have served with you all!

I can certainly see where Bud's is coming from on this. The business is their livelihood, and that of their employees too, which they obviously care about much more than most businesses do. Sadly there are some politicians who will take any opportunity to shut down FFL's any way they can to further their goal of keeping us peasants from having guns. Unfortunately, some states have more of these politicians than most others, and who have made enough restrictive laws to make FFL's rightfully very nervous.Heck, look at the antics of Bloomberg in NY, going so far as sending people to other states to set up FFL's.

As far as Bud's Gun shop service, I bought my bushmaster M4 from them in December, and it was by far the fastest and easiest gun purchase I have ever made of a non-C&R or antique gun. I simply selected my gun from the website, selected my transfer FFL's name from their list (a brilliant idea by the way.I wish all online dealers did that), gave them shipping and payment info, and viola, a couple weeks later my dealer has the rifle. The purchase at Bud's end took 5 minutes tops, and was done 100% online, in one quick session, with no mailing, faxing, emails, etc, necessary. Couldn't be happier with the transaction or the gun. Good price, great payment plan (although, offering a payment plan for guns, with payments deferred for up to a year, is pretty evil, and is akin to blowing crack smoke in an addicts face :p:D, but the weakness is mine, and the cant be faulted for exploiting my gun addiction.:D). Next time I'm in the market for a modern gun, Bud's will be the first place I check, thats for sure.

Now the question is, and the only question is?

Sure Curiosity ! We are going to try and keep a Group Buy item on THR at all times. Right now it is the S&W M29 Bounty Hunter for $550 delivered. We were selling this same gun for $605 earlier this year and people were ordering several per week. Bud took notice of the volume and decided to buy 100 of them to get the absolute deepest discount offerred. We currently have them at $575 delivered on the website, so THR members are saving an additional $25 off our lowest price ever.

If you guys want to email me some suggestions on the next THR Group Buy....I will take that to Bud and see what we can do for you.

States that allow anti-gun rule and ungodly prosecutions/persecutions of the wrong people need to accept the responsibilty and consequenses. We need to encourage our dealers to leave these states to their own defenses. Then maybe, just maybe, people would start becoming active and voting these morons out of office.

Alas, the issue is not quite as simple and straightforward as some would like to portray it.

Maryland is a de facto single-party state. This means that only one political party controls government and holds effective power to the point where there is no effective opposition.

There are openly-democratic competitive elections and a few token members of an opposition party are tolerated.

As one of the few that doesn't have to buy online from Bud's, I've gotta say that the in-store experience is great too. They are the best store around, by far!

Why is shipping anything to UPSTATE NY a problem? They have an AWB that mirrors the old federal one and they have pistol permits. Someone needs the permit to buy a pistol, so that's on their end, not yours. You have to ship to an FFL, so it's not like the person will somehow illegally take possession of the gun and it be your fault. So just don't ship them post-1994 mags or AWs.

I am not aware of any problem....and we do ship firearms to UPSTATE NY.

The map of the NY counties we ship too (and do not ship too) is located here:

I've dealt w/Bud's twice now (ammo & an FN57 pistol) and have nothing but good to say about their prices & customer service.
