After joining THR just last night, I have already received several messages asking why we (www.budsgunshop.com) choose not to ship to certain areas of the U.S., including MD and portions of NY.

It is honestly not our intent to offend or exclude anyone in these areas. My father-n-law actually lives in the MD area, so I visit there often with my wife and kids and we love it. I have also had the opportunity to travel to NY on a few occasions, and again, just an amazing place that I hope to get to return to very soon.

After my last response in response to this question, I thought I would just copy and paste my reply here for anyone/everyone to read and hopefully get some insight into our dilemma.

Here you go.......

" I understand your frustration. We are very frustrated ourselves that there are many areas of these United States that we are admittedly scared to death of shipping firearms too. We are in the business of selling firearms, that's how we make our living, and opening our market up to millions of other people is a very exciting prospect. Unfortunately, the fear over losing our ability to make a living (FFL) is what prevents us from shipping to some of those same areas.

I look forward to circumstances changing....but the verdict (politics) is still outside of our comfort zone.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend "

Howdy - Once again, welcome to THR.

I was one of the folks who questioned you on your company's policy not to sell to us here in MD.

First, let me say thank you for your quick reply. I check my PM's regularly, just don't respond to them quickly. But it is appreciated.

That said - I totally and completely respect Bud's right to run his business how he see's fit - but I can't help but think, shouldn't his quarrel be with the ATF? I mean, if the explanation you've given me is true (and I have no reason to believe that it isn't) why penalize us Marylanders for an apparently wrongful decision made by the ATF?

Once again, I don't intend to rake ya'll over the coals, but it does frustrate me that I'm unable to send business your way, and take advantage of the great prices ya'll have, because of an incident that not only didn't involve Bud, but was no fault of the dealer in MD who it happened to?

I hope I'm not opening a can of worms...but it really does leave one frustrated. It seems to me, that as gun owners, we need to send our support to businesses and companies that support us as well. And to me, Bud's falls short by disallowing sales to state because of a crazy (and unfair) situation that befell one of Bud's friends years ago.

Before joining Bud in the gun business back in 2005, I spent 23 years in the aviation business...so FAA instead of ATF, but same basic scenario. When you are dealing with the feds there is right and wrong....they are right, you are wrong, end of story.

If we were just talking about arguing over a few thousand dollars here I might have enough guts (and money) to fight it all the way to the courthouse steps. Unfortunately, we are talking about several peoples/employees lives, families, children, etc....just can't risk it. When we say "it is nothing personal".....that refers to the people of MD and NY.....as it is very personal to us and the families who count on us to provide for them.

Welcome budsgunshop. I am always glad to get dealers’ perspectives. I don’t blame you for not shipping firearms to California, New York, Maryland, or anyone else that is hostile to firearms dealers. It’s not your fault, and it should not be your problem. There are states where I will not live because of their firearms laws.

Ditto, I had a NY carry, when I sold the business, they wanted the license back, so before I did that, I moved to FL. What is worse than not having the ability to obtain a license to carry, is to have one for 25 years, and when you sell your business, you have to notify them, at which point, you have to surrender your "carry", permitt. Now that really sucks, because after carrying for 25 years, you kind of get used to it being there. I was given an oppertunity to get involved with an old friend's Venture Capital Deal, in LA, and turned that down for the same reason. When they get set up in Nevada, I will consider moving.

"shouldn't his quarrel be with the ATF?" NO. You can quarrel with the ATF, apparently bud has a business to run.

I completely support your decision. IMO, if all gun companies stopped shipping to CA/NY (including not shipping to LEO or .MIL bases located in those states), the gun laws would change rather quickly.

i know someone who works in the industry, his company will not ship firearms sent in for repair back to the individuals who own them if they live in the bouroughs of NY because of the state restristions, they have to go through a whole nother 4473 to re-take posession of their firearm, not the ATF's. it is very tricky territory and I cannot blame bud for his stance, how ever it is sad that the residents of these states cannot partake in the great prices and business.

Just another interesting note on this subject....but several of the distributors we work with have offered to export guns out of the country for us direct to international customers (only to approved countries of course)....but they will not drop ship to MD or NY. I know....sounds crazy to me too.

I agree with your decisions. Any other business operating in such hostile environments would do the same.States that allow anti-gun rule and ungodly prosecutions/persecutions of the wrong people need to accept the responsibilty and consequenses. We need to encourage our dealers to leave these states to their own defenses. Then maybe, just maybe, people would start becoming active and voting these morons out of office.

It may be politically incorrect, but let all the gun owners either get together in these states and do something or move and leave no honest armed citizens on the streets. I've had enough of people wanting to sue sue sue or even worse, sit back and do nothing and then still expect the same services.

Didn't Barrett make the decision not to sell 50 cals to anyone(including cops) in California anymore because they banned civilian ownership? That's call consequences for your actions or inactions.

That's my rant....

I am quite certain I would not want to deal with states (or, in some cases, localities within states) that have convoluted, vague and overburdensome regulations and prohibitions. Totally understandable.

Welcome to the forum. I've purchased two guns and a gun of accessories from Bud's so far and the service has been nothing but great.

I absolutely love when major companies and businesses come and join forums like this one and actually talk to the people
Thats what I call customer service.
All of us on here (including I) thank you for great transactions and purchases.
Back on topic
I can understand the restrictions, they are something that we all have to deal with, the process is difficult/ practically impossible with all of the restrictions... Im glad I moved from MD many years ago.

Welcome to the Forum buds. I love your site, and find myself going to it whenever i think of what gun i'm (finally) going to buy. As for your restrictions, it's perfectly understandable, but i'd probably be less understanding were I to live in one of the fore mentioned states :D

Welcome Buds!
As a gun owner and small business owner in NYC I understand your reasons. There are a lot of us and wish that stores like Bud's and Natchezz would support us because it's already so hard to be gunowners here and our options are so limited. We do try to fight for our rights but it's an uphill battle and when stores decide to not serve us it just feels like piling on.
I hope that you reconsider esp. if court cases like Heller and Bloomberg go in our favor.

Hey buds i just ordered my 2nd handgun from you guys last Friday. Cannot wait to shoot it... Both of my experiences have been great, except some guy that answered on the phone the other day was kind of mean to me....But other then that it was good....

Thank you for shipping handguns to California!

Buds was the first place I ever bought guns on line. Their customer service is fantastic. I look forward to doing business with them again.

why penalize us Marylanders for an apparently wrongful decision made by the ATF?

I'll answer this one...

Cuz, the ATF can shut them down, capriciously. The people of Maryland cannot.

I appreciate the warm welcome to THR. You guys (and gals) are great and I appreciate your comments and suggestions as to how we can improve www.budsgunshop.com

I've only made one purchase from you guys so far, I bought a Kahr CW-9 from you guys a couple of months ago and was pretty happy with the way the deal went except the spare mags I ordered with it arrived in 3 days and the gun took almost 2 weeks. So, IMO, it would be nice if the gun shipping process could be sped up a bit.

budsgunshop.com,

Welcome to THR.

Is this, Derek, Brandon or Gurney?

I have enjoyed the great deals, excellent customer service and the ability to finance my purchases with the GE Money Credit Card.

I can't say enough about the positive experiences I've had with budsgunshop.com.

As others have mentioned:
Buds was the first place I ever bought guns on line. Their customer service is fantastic. I look forward to doing business with them again.

glockman19,

This is actually Rex. I am co-owner and VP of BudsGunShop.com. I work right there with Derek, Brandon, and Gurney every day...and yes, all are great guys. We are admittedly not perfect, but we do try very hard. While I am giving credit to our sales guys....let me also introduce you to Kasandra, Bradley, and Kyle in our shipping department. When I joined the company just over two years ago we only had three people working the website. We are now up to about 20 employees, including our book keeping and IT staff. We also operate other sites, including www.securitysafeoutlet.com and www.budspolicesupply.com. Although Buds.com is our primary business, these other sites have been performing very well in the past +6 months.

We really enjoy what we do....but it doesn't get any better than when our efforts are complimented. Thank you glockman19 !

solution to keep your gun karma in line

Every time you cannot send a gun to NY or MD, send it to me instead.
