Can I make a better pistol out of my Hi-Point 9mm?

I've got this little Hi-Point C-9 9mm compact pistol that functions reliably, but doesn't have the accuracy I'd like it to. I can shoot 4-5" groups out to about 30 paces with it, but I think it could do more with a better rear sight. The sight it came with is attached to this dinky little plastic platform that's under spring pressure pushing it upwards. It visibly wiggles side to side and up and down when bumped. I know I'm not this bad a shot, so what can I do to get better groups out of this thing besides sell it and get something more expensive?

Also, I'd like to know if anyone out there knows how these things hold up to foul weather; snow, rain, sand, dust, etc.

Yeah you can and it's easy!!
First go to the hardware store and buy a bag of cement and some sand.
Go to the grocery store and buy a large can of coffee.
Go home.
Open the coffee and dump it into another sutible container.
Mix the concrete and sand to make cement.
Fill the coffee can half full and let dry.
Place the Hi Point in the can on top of the now dry cement.
Mix more cement.
Pour cement into the can until it is full.
Let dry.
Dispose of at the nearest lake or land fill!!!

well that's helpful

I was hoping for some actual advice, not this gun snobbery.

To the Hi-Point's credit it has NEVER jammed, NEVER misfired, and NEVER been off by more than a few inches.

Sorry I can't afford to buy a pistol you guys can respect, but I was trying to find out if there were any replacement sights available for the pistol I have.

In response to the ONE serious response: thanks karlsgunbunker, I tried the ghost ring sight, and while it helped with faster target acquisition, it didn't improve my accuracy any.

Have you shot off a rest to help determine if its the gun, ammo, or operator?

It wouldn't be my number 1 choice but as long as its reliable for you I think they have their place.

My Hipoint shoots Speer Gold Dots and Adcom (United Arab Imirates manufacture) ammo best. Did not shoot the Winchester very well.

I'm not familiar with Hi Points

But if that's a press fit sight assembly, some loctite will hold it down nicely.

If not, well, can't help you much. I really could care less if you had a hipoint or a Les Baer custom. Once you make it work for you, it's all good.

good luck,

jeepmor

Try different brands of ammo. That can make a big difference.

Out of my 9mm Ruger, cheap Blazer ammo shoots better than some more expensive brass brands. Go figure.

B Yond,

I hope you are buying lottery tickets. You stated on another board that you have an AR-7 that has NEVER jammed, NEVER misfired, etc. And now you also have a Hi-Point that has the same perfect record?

lottery tickets...

Maybe I'm just lucky.

I don't think I said my AR-7 has never jammed, it did jam quite often until I figured out it needs high velocity ammo. I think what I said was it never jams with the right ammo.

My Hi-Point does have a perfect record. I'm very happy with it.

These are just two guns that have bad reputations but work just fine for me.

I have others guns that have NEVER jammed, NEVER misfired, etc., but they don't have bad reputations so I don't have anyone to argue with about them.:neener:

No luck with tha Lotto yet.

I'm sorry b Yond, but as an EX Hi-Point owner, I can't help myself.
I used to have the Hi point 9mm compact.
It wasn't the fact that the thing was a jam-o-matic, it's demise came about because of the slam fire!! It got buried somewhere in the vast Sonoran desert!!!

I was watching a couple of boys have fun with their Hi-points at the range this weekend. It brought back most of those not to fond memories!! Thankfully, they did not experience the slam fire like I did!!!
IMHO, the gun has to great a potential to be much more dangerous than it has to be!! Now, MKS may have improved things since the early nineties, but I'm not gunna go out and plop my hard earned cash down to find out!!

They would've fixed it and given you a free mag to make up for shipping costs.

I was not in the mood to spend the better part of a $50 bill (in 1990 dollars) to have a $100 gun fixed...maybe!!!!!

The free mag would have been non sequiter!!!

Your choice. For me, I'd rather have a working gun for $150 than a $100 gun buried in the desert.:D

How about this?

Whether or not the other members like B yond's little pistola is immaterial. He made a reasonable request for information, NOT for opinions concerning Hi-Point firearms in general. There has already been enough off topic garbage in this thread.

I'll leave the thread open for a time, but be advised:
WHOEVER engages in additional bashing in this thread will be seen no more.

If you don't believe it, try me.
