Although I wouldn't mind having one for laughs, I would never actually carry one.

I can't imagine how anything could scream "cop wanna-be" more loudly. It also seems like a good way to get yourself accused of impersonating a police officer.

Also, if you're going to wear a sign announcing that you're carrying concealed, then why not just carry openly? Open carry is no less discrete, more comfortable, and doesn't involve a goofy badge.

"Why pretend to be something you are not? " Hmmmm? I don't need one, but what is your point in stating '...you are not...', when the badge merely declares you ARE, and DO have a license? My state doesn't issue 'permits'. The 2d Am. is our permit. ArmedBear, I'm not too sure of your linkage of Police Departments with the Boy Scouts. I think I know what you meant, but some may see it as a slap in the face. OOOps. USP9, Some residents of Texas, some who have survived the Pacific Campaign of WWII, and many who still have the 9/12 mentality may take umbrage of your linkage of them to the fourth phrase. "Remember the Alamo" "December seventh, a date which will live..." "Let's roll" "Go Hokies" Please don't trivialize patriotism. Unless your middle name is Hussein. There's a place for team loyalty, but you placed it in the wrong context. (IMHO.) I see CarryBadges as the same ilk as CowboyAction, NASCAR, Perfesshonul Rasslin', and soap-opera watchers: voyeurs and WANNABEES. Let's just focus our efforts on getting a USA National carry permit, similar to our driving licenses. As with vehicles, it might require testing and competence, with registration at the first, like the current background check, but all paperwork destroyed after a short period of time. THAT'S the idea whose time has come. There may never be another chance. THINK AND ACT 1020. Semper-7.62-Fi.

I renewed my CCW permit a couple months ago, and the Instructor actually recommended a CCW badge. In the past he has said it was not a good idea, but he has changed his mind.

Did your instructor happen to have any of these badges for sale?

This is incorrect.

No, it’s exactly correct. WA has no permit system. You cannot get a permit because one doesn’t exist. WA does have a concealed pistol license, which is very different than a permit.

Fairly accurate portrait, Justin. But I would have my finger directly on the trigger while I figure out what to shoot at.

I'd be more inclined to believe Gecko45 was with a special forces outfit before I'd believe somebody flashing that nonsense at me.

IIRC, Gecko actually posted somewhere that CCW holders should wear some sort of badge so that him and his security detail don't accidentally shoot them.

When I am at work, I have to wear a badge and other associated "bling" that is part of my uniforms. I wear my uniform with pride, but at the same time I hate it because it makes me look way too much like police.

When I'm off, I want to be as under the radar as I can, and not attract any attention, to the best of my abilities. Hell, the first thing I want to do when I get off work is get rid of all the 'Bling' I have to wear, including my badge.

As for CCW badges, great if you're a mall-ninja, bad if you're a rational person.

I guess the greatest form of flattery is impersonation. I guess its good that the mall-ninja crowd has so much respect for Police and company that they want to emulate them, but at the same time, good taste should prevail. CCW badges are the epitome of bad taste.

BOY! THAT NEEDS TO BE CHISELED IN GRANITE !! !! As for NASCAR, if it ain't available on the show-room floor, it just aint a "stock car." Those round-i-rounds are imposters, but they shore have a good time and sell lotsa beer. It's sorta like a polymer 1911. Jus' ain't no such thang. I have seen CW 'badges' displayed, and the effect seems to have stopped a potential crime. IMHO. A 'dude' with a side-wise cap was spending way too much time in the check-cash line at W-mart, filling out forms and putting them in the trash. He seemed to me to be casing the kiosk. I saw a 'citizen' display a gold-tone badge and a 1911 in a shoulder-rig. I never noticed it until it was put in plain sight. The badge was on the holster. The suspicious guy faded into the parking lot. I never asked any questions.

I've asked the LEO's I've worked with and shown them the badges and we've all come to the conclusion that its a great way to end up on the bad end of a LEO encounter.
Another strong point thats been brought up is that in SHTF scenarios badges are bullseyes.

Of course they're a bad idea, but the poll ends up being sort of like an ink blot test - you get to see how some folks think and sometimes how tortured their logic is.

I don't want to wear a badge that tells passersby what's in my pants.

It might scare them.:D

So far, only 3 of 227 THR respondents agree that "It's a good idea as it shows the cops you are a good guy."

That's a pretty strong poll result. You can get 1.3% of people to agree that arsenic would make a nice dinner.

Did you say arsenic?

Many chickens are still fed arsenic. Did you know that? :)

www.nytimes.com/2006/04/05/dining/05well.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

"Tyson Foods, the nation's largest chicken producer, has stopped using arsenic in its chicken feed [in 2004]." "But there are still plenty of chickens out there with arsenic."

"Because there are still many more arsenic-fed than arsenic-free chickens for sale, consumers can reduce their exposure by buying from companies that have stopped using arsenic, or by choosing chickens labeled organic or antibiotic-free. They can also remove the skin from the chicken treated with arsenic, which reduces levels significantly."

This has been public service announcement.

The proper way to identify yourself to a police officer is to put your gun down when he approaches or tells you to.

Why not add a blue light to your car while you are at it?

The point is that anyone who wants the badge is a wanna-be. There is no reason to wear a badge with your gun unless you are trying to convince someone you are in law-enforcement.

As to license versus permit, I think this is just semantics, but yes it is a concealed pistol license.

Again, if you wanna be a cop, be a cop. If not, your license and ID are sufficient without the impression you are trying to impersonate or risking becoming a target. Concealed means that. Why would you advertise?

Note also that cops are issued badges, for a really specific reason.

If there was ANY reason to issue badges to CCW/CPL/CWL/CHL or whatever holders (e.g. letting the cops know we're good guys, or letting bystanders know that we're here to save them despite not being able to do a pullup or run 100 yards), we'd be issued a f-ing badge when we got the license.

Note that NO entity that issues these permits/licenses/whatever, issued badges with them. Zip, zero, nada.

Just think- a set of Punisher grips on your pistol.. your CCW badge shined up and spiffy on your belt... 5.11 tactical vest on securely... 16 spare mags in the vest and 3 tactical flashlights on your pants...and a trauma plate duct-taped over your vital areas.

Sounds like a hot ticket for mall security, right there.

I think it's a good idea but not for the reason the OP listed.

I think it's a good option to be able to flash a badge at someone who is harassing you. That way you should not get in trouble for impersonating an officer. It says CCW on it, not police.
