Just called the Cobb county court and my permit is ready to pick up! They exceeded the 60 day limit by a week or so but at least it wasn't the 3-4 months they told me when I applied. Perfect timing as I have a road trip planned for this weekend and now I can legally have my pistol(s) with me. I guess I'll now have to strap up and do the Walmart walk...

The Wal-Mart Walk

Does everyone take a stroll around WM to wear the new off their CHP?

The first time I carried I felt like EVERYONE was staring at me. You get over it

ETA 3 to 4 MONTHS? in Colorado its like 3 to 4 WEEKS

Permits here in GA are controlled by the county probate courts and some of them are very gun unfriendly. That my permit arrived in about 70 days is amazing from what I've heard. One of our local gun rights organizations has been suing counties that do not follow the law - it seems to be working...

Congratulations, NGIB.

I believe the going to Wal-Mart is like a rite of passage for those who just got their license. Go forth and show WM how well you can conceal a firearm.

Yep, next stop Wally World (aka Wal-Mart) AND you have to go when it's busy...no buying produce at 3am in the 24-hour Super Wal-Mart :neener:

Have fun, and remember everyone is staring at you....:D

Take care,

Damn, I knew there were special rules I have to follow. I'm running down to Macon tomorrow to visit an old friend. This fella has always thought I was a bit redneck and right-wing, I can't wait to see the look on his face when I take off my jacket at his place...

Not even going to lie...first place I carried...Wal-Mart

That's so funny! I can't remember for sure, so it might have been Target, but I think W-M was my first armed excusion, too!

When I went to get my CCW permit renewed, The Boss asked me what was involved, since she'd had a permit when we lived in Iowa, but not since moving back to Alabama. Less than 20 minutes, and $11.00 later, out the door with her brand-new permit.

Gotta love a redneck sheriff!

Went to the courthouse and picked up my permit this afternoon rather than waiting another week for them to mail it. Sure feels good to finally be able to exercise my right to bear arms - legally...

I think WM was probably the first place I carried...why? Because I was heading out to do some shooting and needed ammo and gatorade!

what are you carrying?I imagine that in GA you wouldn't be the only guy carrying at your local Wal-mart..here in upstate NY,sometimes I think it's just me and a few of my shooting buddies.Congrats.

I too thought everyone was staring at me, but after a few weeks you come to realize most people are totally oblivious. I started carrying my s&w 642 on a desantis ankle rig and realized that my ruger p345 (a gun twice the size) actually conceals much better and carries easier on a three slot hip holster. Once you find the right rig for a gun you feel comfortable with it just becomes like grabbing you wallet or cell phone in the morning. I dont need to take my gun with me in the morning, but its better to have and not need than need and not have. If Murphy's Law has taught us anything its that the one time you dont grab it b/c youre running late or something is the one time youre gonna need it.

When you go to your buddies house, keep it concealed. Wear your shirt or pullover over it if it is too warm to keep your jacket on. Even if it is not your habit to wear your shirt untucked you will be surprised to find how many of your friends never notice cause they just don't pay attention. It will be a good test to see if you can keep it concealed and you really don't want everyone knowing anyway. I have lots of friends who know that I am a gun enthusiast, most of them don't know that I carry. I was recently at a family outing and my sister, who was thinking about getting her carry permit, asked if I ever carried. I told her sometimes but not often. After about an hour of coversation discussing guns etc. I took my shirt off to reveal the Glock 23 and the extra mag I carry almost all the time.;) You should have seen the look I got from her and the rest of my family. None of them had any idea that I was armed. By the way, she now has her MASS carry permit though she has not bought a gun or, should I say, guns as her husband got his at the same time. :D We ended up going to the Kittery Trading Post that day and I think she is gonna probably end up with a Glock or the Smith M&P. I hope she gets the Smith. I haven't had a chance to play with one yet.

NGIB, glad you got you license, even though it took way too long. The group you mentioned

is GeorgiaCarry.org. We've been doing more than just suing magistrate judges: we're also suing cities and counties with unlawful ordinances and have introduced a bill to the legislature (HB 915) that would change GA from the most restrictive state to one of the best. Right now, some of the language of our bill has been amended to the NRA's HB 89, which is currently in conference committee. Please take the time and $15 to join up and help in the fight to get all of our rights back.
