As I or my co-worker is getting out the fingerprint kit (looks like a old battered fishing tackle box encrusted in black powder),
Had a "little situation" and the nice officers showed up to get finger prints , take pictures, gather evidence and all.
Plainclothes detectives, one a more seasoned gentleman, the other a really sharp younger lady. Both carried revolvers as duty weapons.
In needing to check something out, I offered the use of a magnifying glass about 4" in diameter. Both officers really liked this magnifying glass , especially the 10x part down at 6 o'clock.
Officers were very understanding, very professional and from time to time called me over to ask questions. I was out of the way trying to deal with the situation and making notes on all the stuff I needed to deal with. "Writing it down" if you will.
I made some coffee and offered them some. These officers accepted and they were really great and conversation was "eased up" to relieve the tension.
I commented on how "tacky" their tackle box was. I mean this thing was pitiful.
"Budget cuts, we were sent out to find our own and I got this one off the bank after the lake receded"
Lady officer asked about this magnifying glass, I said "keep it" she resisted but I can be more hard-headed.
"What do you use it for?" They both asked and I shared it come in handy for customers that forget to bring in their glasses - or too vain to admit they need glasses.
Sipping coffee, and sorta obvious about firearms , with a shotgun over "there" and a handgun sitting on a work table over "there".
Yeah I use the Bifocal Weaver when I shoot handguns, since my eyes changed a few years back...- I replied.
Older Officer cracked up, younger officer cracked up and there I was with my hands pretending to shoot a handgun and "tilting" my head so my bifocals could see front sight.
I bought a nice tackle box a few days later, called these officers and presented it them. They declined, I insisted (I do that this well) and the lady said " Oh great, we are used to ours flopping open with the hinges not working, this is going to take some getting used to".
Gentleman commented how he was going to miss the adhesive tape on the handle and a box missing feet on the bottom and not being level .
