let's use this thread to give any opinions you have on companies you've dealt with recently on their customer service.

The Good :

Remington : fast, friendly, no questions asked replacements on a defective Moistureguard shotgun plug. Also sent catalogs out. Should be here soon hopefully. I can see why this company is as highly regarded as it is. Great.

Mossberg : about the same as Remington. I had a bad spring on a 590 once, so what did they do? They sent out THREE (3) replacement springs within a week. I later contacted them regarding a lost sling swivel stud and how much itd be to order to a new one...they didn't mention price...there was a pause while they brought up a screen and asked for my information and said that the part was on it's way. Great. They've also been known to send the gun back with extras in the package, send back repairs express shipping, and also opt not to charge customers for replacement parts altogether.

The bad : (so far)

Ace case : I have used Ace Case shellholder buttcuffs on my shotguns in the past, but not any more.. My current one is fraying on the seams and has a ripped shell loop and it is only 4 months old. Yes, it's only a 6 dollar item. That's 6 dollars I spent in good faith. Without plenty of people like me putting that 6 dollars into the product, they wouldn't BE selling product. I contacted them regarding a possible replacement, and they told me to send the product back on my own dime WITH a proof of purchase. First off, why would I have kept the packaging? And if I did, wouldn't I return it to the store (which is 20 miles away!)? I asked why the shipping would fall upon me in order to get them to stand behind their product. They replied with "it'll only cost 2.00 USPS to return the product". 2 dollars or 2 cents, it's the principle. People like us keep these companies in business, and when they treat us like liars and fail to stand behind their product, they don't deserve the business. I threw the shell holder in the garbage where it belongs and will not purchase from the company again in the future at any time.

Tacstar :

I've used the sidesaddles on a Winchester 1300, Rem870 and Mossberg 500/590s before in the past with mixed results. I recently purchased one for my m500 and found the retaining nut to be completely stripped. I contacted the company on December 18th asking about how to replace the part. I also told them I had a Winchester 1300 sidesaddle that did not fit AT ALL. It literally would not fit. They were prompt in their reply and stated that the replacements were ordered. I did not hear ANYTHING at all until today, when I got a retaining nut from Tacstar. A tiny retaining nut. Nevermind the ENTIRE assembly that didn't fit on my 1300, and nevermind the screw I nearly stripped off trying to work onto a threadless nut. I laughed and returned the entire shell holder to the store (which again is around 25 miles away). So all in all, about 60 bucks+ gas money down the drain, and a retaining nut to compensate. lol.

Hi-Point: One of the best customer service in the gun industry. I bought an old beat up 995 carbine. The stock was cut , as was the barrel. I called them to ask about a replacement stock and they ( I spoke to the actually president of the company. He was the one who answered the phone. The secretary was on lunch) told me to just send it in. 2 weeks later I had a brand new stock and barrel at no charge. They even tossed in a mag ($17) to cover the shipping to them. You'd be hard pressed to find another company to do that.

Charles Daly: Bought a used auto loader from a local guy. Had nothing but problems with it. Went on the companies forum to ask for help and the president sent me a PM. Told me to send it in to be looked at. In return, I got a brand new gun at no charge. Insane customer service!

Springfield Armory = Great

I bought was was supposedly new Springfield Armory SOCOM from a dealer at a gunshow in florida. When I took it to the range it went full auto on me for a few rounds at a time here and there, like pop pop pop. When I examined the sear, it had been filed. I thought that it was a normal adjustment that SA tuned, but they said that they don't file them. Most likely someone had bought this rifle, filed it, then panicked when they realized what they did, so they returned the rifle. SA replaced the sear no questions asked. Great company.

None of these are particularly recent, but here's some feedback anyway:

The Good:

Bushmaster: I had a rifle where the sights had to be cranked 'way over to be zeroed. Bushmaster had me send back the upper - at their expense - and they re-indexed the barrel and promptly returned the upper. Two clicks brings me to zero now.

DSA: Similar situation with one of their FALs. Same result, same outcome. Good company.

Kahr: Had a very troublesome P9. It went back repeatedly - at Kahr's expense - and after several unsuccessful attempts to repair the little gun, they replaced it. (Traded the replacement - unfired - for a G26.)

The Bad:

Colt's. Had a Government Model Jammamatic. Went back to Colt's repeatedly, and remained a jammamatic. Wouldn't reliably get through ONE magazine of hardball without jamming. Based on my experience, Colt's service consists of "Hold gun a while, avoid working on it, return it to customer. Repeat until customer gets tired of our game." :cuss:

The "Good":

Glock does well by me and everyone whose pistol I have ever serviced/repaired. "Standard practice" seems to include small parts replacement and new/extra magazines occasionally when guns return from the Smyrna facility and the MIL/LE/EMS discount program is a great way to thank those who've given so much for their awesome service to this country.

The personnel answer the phone quickly and speak politely and professionally evertime I have spoken with them (alot) and they are an exemplar of how CS reps should behave.

Glock has got it "goin' on" when it comes to CS, IMHO.

The "Bad":

OMB- The only "luck" I have had with these folks has been "bad". No one seems to be available or willing to answer a phone, I have yet to order (or receive) an item from them as they seem to either be perpetually "out of stock" or "processing". All orders have long since been cancelled, yet I still get e-mails (despite unsubscribing a dozen or more times) from them with "great deals". Um, yeah...

The "Ugly":

Cheaper Than Dirt (or is it Diamonds?)- Although everything is often "back ordered" at OMB, at least the prices at OMB don't border on highway robbery. I don't believe that gouging can occur in our (kind of) capitalist (almost) free market economy, but if I did believe in the concept, CTD would be the industry innovator in the field.

Besides having most ammunition on "back order", they are the only company that I've ever seen list a 50 round box of .380 FMJ at $70.00+ and sell it at that price. Now that's impressive.

The last time, in the "not-too-distant" past, that I dealt with one of their CS representatives, I got the distinct impression that she wasn't listening to a word I said and when I asked her to repeat what I had just said to her (I had just asked her if I could return a defective item), her response was, "OK, sir, to what address would you like that shipped?"

The chewing gum snapping and popping in the background should have been my first clue...

BerettaUSA- crazy, stupid, nut-job pricing on "replacement" parts for their Tikka T3 line. If you damage your stock, it is actually cheaper to just buy a new gun. Sheeeeesh!

Good - RCBS and Redding. I needed a few small items to repair a die set and powder measure. Each said "e-mail us your address & we'll mail the parts N/C."

Ciener, for the .22LR adapter for EBR's. I commented on the Olyowners website about problems with mine, directed over to AR15.com to the manufacturers page. Wrote about a paragraph describing my issue with FTF and FTE. Got a very quick response to send it back for replacement. Wanting to ensure it wasn't just a bad lot of ammo, went back to the range and refired, with same results. Again posted on AR15.com and this time mailed the faulty .22LR adapter kit back in the "blue tube". Less than a week later, new replacement received, along with a free 27 round mag. Threw it in, lubed it good and ever since, have found nothing but joy! Great company and great customer service.

Wiley-X. Bought a set of sunglasses prior to returning to Iraq in summer 2004. Over the years the glasses were beat up pretty good. Hated to just throw them out so checked their website for warranty info. Contacted them and explained that the replacement lenses I purchased didn't fit. Wiley-X customer service took my approximate purchase date, looked up the model and next day, fedex'd me a replacement set of glasses, new in box, not just the lenses, but a new full Wiley-X set of glasses. Outstanding company and outstanding customer service.

Can't pass this one up. Sears. Craftsman tools. Enough said. Buy it, break it, bring it back, leave with a new replacement. Nuff said.

not a gun company but i have found midwayusa customer service to be top notch and recently i used bushnells return service on a "refurbished" rangefinder i bought, sent it in with 10 bucks return shipping and had a new unit at my door in a week. havent had any bad expiriences yet.

SCCY was great to me. I managed after 450 rounds to benag up the guide rod assembly. It's a $7 part in their manual. So I call them up to buy a new guide rod assy....she says to not worry about it and just giver her my address, they'll ship one free of charge.

Pretty much, anything that can be easily replaced by the user is shipped free no questions asked. I like that.

Springfield Armory........The best

Kimber...........Not so Hot

Benelli...........Awful

EDIT:

Almost forgot Charles Daily........very good CS, want comment on their products though

i have had nothing but good come from LEE PRECISION reloading equipment... VOLQUARTSEN CUSTOMS is one of the absolute best places i've ever been for great service and customer apprecieation (sp).... THANKS SCOTT V!!..............

LIFE IS SHORT.....

RCBS- I destroyed the guts to a die punching primers out of brass that had undersized flash holes. I called them and told them what I did and the results. The sent me the replacement parts at no charge and added a handful of decapping pins.

Not Guns but CRKT- got an older model knife that the clip was missing screws from. Ordered replacement clip and screws from their website- no charge.

Ruger Good!

Some time back I bought a used Ruger Blackhawk 45 convertible. The transfer bar was partially broke so that the hammer would not always hit the firing pin. I took it back to the store I bought it from and they said they would fix it. Instead of replacing the transfer bar they ground down the front of the hammer!:what:

I should have asked for my money back but I kept the gun. This past summer I sent the gun back to Ruger for repair. Fedex charged me $15.70 or there about. Ruger shipped the weapon back about three weeks later and did not charge me a dime. The weapon works fine now. They replaced the hammer, transfer bar and other parts. Also, the wood grips I had on the gun did not fit properly and ruger sent the gun back with new wood grips despite the fact they just stopped shipping their new blackhawks with wood grips because of problems with availability.

Ruger is number one with me. :D

gonna go ahead and add Sig to the list. I detest this company on so many levels, which is lame because I think they make (or MADE) some really fine firearms. I'll never part with my p220.

1 - no 1-800 number. I'm supposed to call on my dime all the way across the country and wait to be told how much I am going to be out for them to fix their OWN product.

2 - the fact that you need to pay for a "service" to find out the year your gun was produced. haha. right. that's NOT happening.

3 - called a couple weeks ago, waiting on hold for 10 minutes. left a message politely asking for a call back. what do you know? no call back.

4 - this list could get long. just take a look at the Sig website.

will NOT be buying a new Sig any time soon. W. German or nothing for me, and even then I'll think twice.

Not really a true company but:

CMP: Bought a service-grade Garand, took it to the range and the op rod started popping out of the side of the receiver. Called them up, they transferred me to the gunsmith, and he sent me out a new op rod that arrived 2 days later. I was pretty excited because looking online I had realized that replacing an op rod is an expensive affair.

The Good

(1) Henry Rifles
(2) Graf and Sons
(3) CZ-USA when you speak with Justin or Sherry
(4) Cabelas

The Bad

(1) Savage
(2) Beretta

The ugly

(1) CZ-USA when you talk with someone other than Justin or Sherry
(2) Verizon wireless ; not gun related but they piss me off..

Brownells. Recent return went AWOL early December so, after contacting customer service, I wrote it off since I had no proof of shipping (doh). Just figured somebody got a nice present. Two weeks ago, a credit appeared on my statement. Good prices, good people.

During these last few months, I've also found customer service at the CMP simply outstanding.

Outstanding: Missouri Bullet

Good: Smith & Wesson, Midway, CMP.

Decent: Midsouth Shooters Supply. Good pricing, but shipping options/rates kinda blow eggs.

Disappointing: CZ. Sent them an older CZ85 (i.e., out of warranty) in late September 09. After multiple emails and a phone call, I got my gun back a couple three weeks before Christmas. Problem? A spring. Cost? $65 (included shipping).

Me too. They are the only ones I've had to deal with firsthand, but they were amazing.

Thankfully I haven't had to find out about the others, but I'm sure it's a matter of time.

ETA: And RCBS - I was only thinking about guns.

Good:

Smith & Wesson - they basically rebuilt my P22 for me after I shot the heck out of it (and probably over-cleaned it) for free. They paid shipping both ways and the total turn around was 6 days.

MidwayUSA - I have roughly 10 orders from them and no problems ever.

Missouri Bullet Company - good bullets, great price.

Thumbs up for FNH USA. Retail box for FS2000 was missing maintenance parts, CS manager sent them out pronto.
