I just bought a CZ compact .40 for my collection (to team up with my CZ 75 B Stainless) and I'm wonder if I can do anything to the barrel to make it shiny silver.

Something like soaking the barrel in a mild acid (vinagar) or some easy....

Thanks

Uh, the inside of the barrel?

I'd stick to whatever brand of carbon and copper fouling cleaners you prefer. Vinegar isn't something I'd be dunking metal parts into for any length of time. Never heard of that being used as a bore cleaner before.

Sorry , I should of made it more clear... the outside of the barrel. To take off the blue/black coating.

shiny barrel

You might want to try a hard chrome finish. Price isn't too bad; I had a CZ 52 chromed...very shiny and the finish holds up well. Just don't use automotive chrome polish on it...

This is what I would do. Stephen Camp did this to one of his CZ-75's and it came out nice. Send the barrel to Fords or Tripps.

The odd looking coating on the barrel is supposed to be there - that's the protective finish. If you truly want it to be shiny, get with Robar or any other high end refinishing company and have the outside refinished in something very durable.

The whole barrel really does not need to be shiny. Only the top of the chamber - the part exposed through the ejection port - is visible when the slide is forward/in battery. If you must, a little judicious polishing with a Scotchbrite pad, fine steel wool or very fine sandpaper, possibly augmented by a metal polish, should not hurt anything. Don't take any metal off the locking lug.
