a BG (bad guy) is anyone who poses a realistic threat to me, my family and my property. This can be anyone. Even someone you know who you previously thought was a GG (good guy). As the old aphorism goes " I only can trust me and thee and at times I am not even certain of thee".

Threats change, they come and go. They become larger and smaller. The only constant in the threat continuum is you and your ability to recognize and respond.

"If their action is intended to a) improve their situation at the expense of others, b) intentionally physically or psychologically harm others, or c) causes harm or destruction to the property of others, I see them as a BG."

Dont we fit these definitions when we are defending ourselves? Are we then BG's at times?

As Jim said, we don't initiate the force; we respond to force. We don't do it for personal gain. We are using force to maintain the status quo. We're using necessary force to keep ourselves alive, not to improve our position in life.

Fair enough. I guess the difference between initiating and responding is a big one, especially in the eyes of the law. But I still view self preservation as personal gain, and not something to be ashamed of.
