Did you ever buy ammo and accessories for a gun you don't own?

It seemed like I was always between having a .38 Super in my collection. So anytime I found ammo or a magazine I bought it and stored it away, just waiting until the next time I had the gun to go with it.

I have purchased accessories for firearms I didn't own YET. The one that comes to mind is an original pre-war Colt magazine for a Colt Ace that was on my short termed buy list. Still have the mag, but not the handgun. Worth some money now.

The accessories generally have to be hard to find for me to do this. Generally speaking, I spend money only when it is needed.

i bought about 60+ boxes of 20 ga shot of various sizes at walmart one night for $1 a box.
i didnt own a 20 ga, bought 1 after that.

back in the 90s i bought an S load of full capacity pistol mags for guns i planned to buy, before the BS california ban went in.

Yep. I don't have a 9mm now but I will have one again. I kept all my reloading stuff and some of the brass after I sold the last 9mm because I knew I'd need it again. I've also bought a few boxes of 9mm lately just to have it on hand when I get around to buying another one. Ammo is becoming more available, but now I KNOW I'll have a box or two for trying out my new gun when I get it.

I also have a few Mini-14 magazines around, but no rifle for them. I'm in no hurry. Some day a used newer model with the heavier barrel will turn up when I can afford it and I'll try it out. If not, the magazines will always be worth what I paid for them so I can recover my cost.

Yeah. I have a couple boxes of .243 WSSM and 357 SIG, but I don't own a gun chambered for either. Also have some AR parts laying around, and no AR.

Oh, and I also have enough AK and 870 accessories to almost build a new gun of each.

I had bullet molds, dies etc and loaded ammo before I had my first 45... granted it was an anticipated purchase a week later...

I found some 30 Rem for ~$10 a box a couple of years ago and bought 3 boxes to give to a friend that has an old pump Remington.

I accidentally picked up a couple boxes of 16ga shells last fall, I've been keeping my eye out for a shotgun to shoot them out of. I also have a single box of 7.62x39 that for the life of me I can't remember where it came from.

Almost aways, with rare exceptions. After buying a case of surplus '43 (English-made) .303 in April '09 from Samco, this ammo vanished at Samco later that month.

Some of us first buy ammo, because without affordable and available ammo, it makes little sense to first buy a gun, assuming that there won't be steady price increases (i.e. 8mm Mauser ammo a year ago) or a sudden, buying panic. With mostly milsurp rifles, the issues are a bit unique.

Sure. You find a good deal or something unique and you get it as you hope to use it, own what it is related to someday, worst case sell or trade it later. Sometimes you get things by accident as part of a deal.

I've been known to have a bayonet and gotten the rifle to go with it!!!

Here in Colorado I got put up against the wall with the mag ban so I bought the 10 Pmags allocated to me as a resident knowing I intended to buy a 308 AR when I came upon one I liked. Took another month but I found a S&W that fit the bill. Got way more 5.56 mags than I need for the rifles I have so I guess that counts too. I know of a few others that bought heavy on the PMags prior to July with intent to buy guns for them later.

Almost never.

Before I owned a 22lr rifle, I bought exactly one box of CCI Minimags--but in expectation of buying a 10/22 right after. Other than that, no I don't buy anything I don't need at the time and let others who need them get the chance

I like to plan ahead, for the future, and have certain items before I need them...that way when I need them, I have them, regardless of what has changed in the market during the interim.

A good deal is a good deal, right?

If I "know" I'm gonna get something and come across a "deal" I get it. I haven't let myself down yet....
