Disagreement with a customer today at work

It's been my experience that to the extent this statement is true, it is true pretty much regardless of the firearm brand name you choose to insert where "Glock" appears in the statement.

Of course it's an exaggeration--clearly not all gun owners are so stuck on brands that they can't accept negative feedback about their guns

Yep, JohnKSa, it truly is an exaggeration and the concept does seem to be universal about different brands and the owners and their particular brand. Of course, I am an exception - just don't be talkin' no jive 'bout my SIG!

Maybe those that do defend their Glocks sometimes are just a little more vociferous. :)

True story: Had a friend in high school whose family was Romanian Gypsy (his description of them). He tended to be very outgoing and was called down by the teacher one day, telling him to his was way too vociferous. He immediately became irate and wanted to know just why she was calling him names. She explained it just meant that he was talking too much and too loud. He immediately smiled and calmed down. He leaned over to me and said, "for a minute there, I thought she was talking bad about us gypsies!"

Could be...

Of course, there's another factor involved.

I'm a Glock owner. Also a Ruger, Walther, CZ, Marlin, Beretta, Kahr, Colt, Browning, H&K, Springfield, Remington, et. al. owner. In the past I've owned several other brands I don't currently own.

Since all the other guns/brands I own are manmade, they also have their "warts" just like the Glock does. And yet, somehow I just don't see people "attacking" those brands anything like what I see said about Glocks.

So, maybe what you're seeing is not so much the cause as the effect. ;)

I was standing at the counter at a Sportsman's Warehouse a year or so ago (it subsequently went belly-up and was sold to another concern, not that it matters here), and a customer to my right was getting a demonstration regarding handguns from the clerk. I was looking over the paltry selection of Walthers under the glass, paying little attention, when a rather large fellow inserted himself into the conversation, proclaiming that the only handgun worth a good tinker's damn was the Glock and that all the rest of them were absolute garbage, regardless or caliber or manufacturer, price or design or style. The fellow was so loud, and so obnoxious, and so decidedly arrogant, that even the clerk, otherwise trained to recognize that the customer is always right, suggested mildly that other handguns -- "SIGS, for instance" -- had their place in the modern world. "Not true," the big guy pontificated. "I'm a Glock armorer, and I know what I'm talking about." And on it went until the original customer, tired of the tirade, walked out in disgust and the clerk was forced to ask the armorer if he could kindly keep his opinions to himself the next time around. The armorer's reply: "I was just trying to help out -- wouldn't to see that guy get stuck with some piece of junk."

Just one guy and one incident on one day, of course -- but it did happen just the way it's described here. And it was quite awhile before I could bring myself to set foot in that store again.

I have on occasion interjected my opinion on a gun at a counter but it has always been in support of the make and model being shown by the clerk and with the knowledge of actually owning and shooting it.
The last time was a Benelli SBE. I don't believe in repeating urban legends that I have no proof of especially at anothers place of business.

After all the years of glock just being accepted as a good firearm, popular with police, and reliable it had to happen. People will always attack what is at the top. Glock really isnt anymore, as there are so many other good choices available, but the Glock bashing will never end.

Interesting you list the other manufacturers. I had a Smith and Wesson 29 that shot itself loose, two Rugers that had to go back to the factory to be fixed, one that was new in box. An XD that would give light primer strikes, a taurus that wouldnt feed anything, a marlin 60 that wouldnt extract empties, etc. Never had a problem with a glock though. I still love all my guns, except the taurus. Those have all left the stable for good.

I love it when people start bashing on glocks and posting links to tgz about glocks blowing up, etc. Its funny

So the op makes this statement on the Glocks firing out of battery, My question to him has he seen or experienced this in person or read on the net. If you have not experienced it your self then I would say you are putting bias into it.

These threads are always interesting.

Glock owners are zealots because of the haters.
No, the haters hate because the owners are zealots.
The chicken or the egg?

I've shot some good Glocks and I've shot good with Glocks I just don't happen to own one. I carry an XD but I love 1911s myself... and the honest truth is I've been considering a good revolver...... Ok lets start that fight!
