It's about the same as buying a high performance motorcycle and never taking it to the racetrack but only use it to go down the block to get coffee, but then again, this is America so do what you like, and respect those who don't agree.

I voted sometimes because that is the truth but I carry cocked locked and ready to rock and have an extra loaded mag with me. I dont feel underarmed if I'm not +1. That's just me tho.:p

You should carry a fully loaded pistol. If you get into a shooting the police will want to account for every round that you fired. The easiest and most accurate way to know how many rounds were fired is to count down what's left in your pistol, and then account for shell casings. If the number of remaining rounds plus the number of shell casings equals no more room, it will make your life easier.

This becomes really important if the person you shot (or his friends) starts telling lies (I know they wouldn't), and says that you shot at them on the other side of the parking lot, chased him over to your car, and shot him three more times. Especially if he was in ICU for a couple days before regaining consciousness. This can be reasonable shown to be a lie in one situation, and in the other it leave a lot of room open for doubt.

OMG, talk about paranoia. If you really spend this much time worrying about every possible legal action you will never be able to fire your gun in SD.

From Gabe Suarez:
In today's world, nobody wants to get into a confrontation. Not only are they dangerous and you might get killed, but they are also potentially very expensive. Yet, when avoidance strategies fail, you must be ready to transition to attack mode. There has been such brow beating (specially from trainers with police-backgrounds who get brow-beaten at work) on getting sued, and getting prosecuted that when the time comes people are frozen in place, more afraid of Judge Judy that of the criminal about to rape or rob them.

Might you get sued? Sure, so protect your assets. Don't die because you are afraid getting sued. Might a politically-motivated prosecutor try to make a case against you? Sure, so have a criminal attorney on your "friends list" to call in such cases. But remember that being broke and in jail is a temporary thing, being dead is not. Even worse is having loved one dead because you hesitated to act. Like my Spanish Legion friends say, "Better that you bring me tobbacco in prison than flowers to the cemetery".

My pistols always have one up the nose, and a full mag following. My revolvers,..full cylinders .... EVERYTIME,.....

Shotguns and rifles are usually "cruiser ready"...with safety on,...empty chamber,...unless I have a reason to lock and load.

I keep my shotgun with the safety off and an empty chamber. No point in using a safety on an empty chamber.

Realistically I don't see using more than 5 or 6 rounds probably less.
Cop/attorney friend of mine once told me that "if youare scared enough to pull the trigger on someone, prosecuters think you better be scared enough to empty the mag and keep clicking on an empty chamber".. made sense to me lol

Then again, stop unloading your mag into the perp is he has a hole in his head and is noticeably devoid of life.

Standing over a lifeless body and pumping more rounds into him to make a point doesn't usually sit well with the jury.

I shoot very well but am the type if adrenaline kicked in I would pull the trigger until the mag was empty and then be reaching for a spare mag. I would then check the body. .45 hollow points are getting expensive.

At -7 yards, I train to "point shoot", firing as many rounds, as fast as I can while still getting them centermass. I've got to where I can get 8 hits in around 3 seconds. Unless he hits the ground right away, I'm not stopping to see if 2 or 3 rounds did the job.

I haven't been in an a fight or altercation my entire adult life. I hope that I can finish my life the same way, and the odds are good that I won't ever have to shoot my gun in defense. But I have no doubt in my mind that if I have to defend my life or my family's, I'm going to end it as fast as I can, without any consideration for legalities.

Don't get tunnel vision. There maybe more then one BG out there, other then the one you just shot. SCAN SCAN SCAN. Watch all around for other BG. Relax only when cavarly arrives and then only go to condition orange. You just never know.
