For all you people worried about such basic information I invite you to go to www.spokeo.com

Mine insists that it has:

Email addresses
Social network profiles and all public photos / videos I've posted
Occupation
Income bracket
Voter registry plus party
Religion

But clearly does not...

None of which has anything to do with letting someone copy your driver's license, or other personal documents...

That's all normal, I am a geek so I know what's out there, but did you know that there are programs, that will yield your credit card numbers from your social security number. Also those last 4 numbers that everyone asks for yield the entire number if you are a hacker or just have the knowledge.
It's far better to give nothing than anything now a days. There are too many Trojans, key loggers and backdoors that will open a whole barrage of info to someone who actually knows what they are doing with programming.

I thought the same thing until I paid the $4 and found out that they did. Some things may not apply to some people but the data it had was correct for every family member that I checked. It isn't exact, for example, they only knew that my brother was in the medical field not the exact position. They did know that my wife and I are engineers and my mother was a teacher. The religion category was the most surprising to me. I have Catholics and Protestants in my family and they were all correct.

Simple, if you show me your ID and I remember your name and city there is a pretty good chance I can find out quite a bit about you if I want to. People here that don't give ID break into two camps, those that worry about identity theft and those that want to stick it to the government and break the record of gun sales. If you are one of the identity theft people, spokeo should be an eye opener to what information is readily available to anyone with $4.

I also like to poke the tinfoil hat brigade a bit too. I can just image some of the folks looking themselves up and flipping out.

Never.

In my state there are no laws requiring it.

I personally find it and insane proposition to give my personal information to a stranger, especially when that stranger knows they can come to that location and find a bunch of guns....

If you call these company's you can opt out of their database. The only one that wanted to charge us a fee, quickly changed their mind when I contacted the 'BBB". You need to contact each one separately like intellus.

Your example of a car is an excellent. Every time you buy and sell a car there is paperwork that shows the parties involved and when the transaction took place. I take guns more seriously than a car.

No, it isn't. Cars are taxed and registered; guns in most states are not. You have NO business scanning or taking a photo of my ID. Identity theft what it is today, no thank you.

No bill of sale for me please!

It is a deal break breaker.

Please if you require one make sure it is clearly worded in your advertisement in advance!

I nearly had to walk on a deal because the seller whipped out a bill of sale which was not previously mentioned anywhere in the advertisement or in any of his correspondence.

You need absolutely no info to 'buy' a vehicle...

You need info to 'register' it to drive on public roads...

Drive it on your own land, farm, or plow your driveway in the winter, and the State has nothing to say about it, nor do they need to know you own it...

For you people that want a copy of drivers license or ccw, why would you want to be responsible for that information? If your house is broken into and that information is stolen you could be held liable.
