Do you let your dog into your reloading room?

1858 - True. I'm still waiting on an answer back from cci as to when they went totally lead free. I have the old box too... grrr... Not a big deal though. Just shoot more:) I had to specifically look up the msds for the cci primers. They'll be online... it's the digital age. As they are explosives, there is a msds out there.

My "Velcro dog" is a Great Dane. :uhoh: She's still in her puppy phase, so she stays out of the reloading room completely. If she would go ahead and get to her "Ima lazy monster phase" I'd might let her in. As it stands, she wants to chew everything that she can reach and she can reach everything that isn't behind a closed door.

anybody wanna guess why rotties have their tail docked?

I have a Saint that is blind in one eye. I completely gave up on the coffee table. If the tail didn't get it, walking into it would.

I tumble outside as well.

Daisy is my mate, she helps me do nearly everything (except what Mrs Interlock does). she helps me reload, by lying at my feet.
Bone the terrier is a little f***er. he is too naughty. when doing shotgun cartridges he would pick the waste hulls out of the bin. He would try and get into everything. so he stays out.

Heard a reply back from CCI. The lead free primers aren't available as components as they are too hygroscopic. The only msds I could find were for the clean-fire, so I appear to be way wrong on this one. Sorry folks.

I did mention that I would be willing to pay a modest increase in prince per 1k of primers if they were lead free for water tight/air tight packaging (5-10 dollars per k... lets be honest, to completely eliminate the lead issue from my reloading setup would be worth it to me) and Linda, the cci rep said she would pass that info on to her Engineering and Sales/Marketing departments. Maybe there is hope yet :)

Never again !

Do you let your dog into your reloading room?

One time I left my dog in my reloading room. When I came back there was a box on the bench marked "Pet Loads". Turns out, he had been planning to shoot the cat.

:D

scythefwd, thanks for the update.

This 'lead in primers' issue has me sufficiently concerned that I ordered a stainless steel delux kit from STM. One of the guys I shoot rifle matches with has one and loves it. I can really see the health benefits of tumbling cases in liquid and I guess I can live with the fact that the cases come out spotless inside and out ;) . I will need to buy a dedicated decapping die to use before tumbling, but this will save time with rifle cases since I won't need to clean inside the primer pockets and case necks. It will add work to my handgun reloading process but it'll keep my progressive a lot cleaner compared to decapping on the press.

Another thing I'll do is use an elastic band to attach a light, clear plastic bag to the end of the decapping tubes on my single stage and progressive presses. I usually place a trash can under the tubes to collect spent primers but the plastic bag method should help to keep dust and airborne contaminants down too. I'll benefit and my dogs will benefit.

My Great Dane, Raisin, is in my reloading room all the time, she loves to look out the window.

But I think I need to get her a couch.
She's a bit big for the chair - :D
(please excuse the mess)

I have a english mastiff (big dog). My loading room is in my shop she comes in gets on the couch looks at me as to say now leave me alone!

My lab comes in once in a while to check on me and get a pat on the head. Then she goes back to my wife and they watch TV together.

My reloading room is my livingroom at least untill the wifey stops working out of town who needs a coffee table when you can have a bench! All cleaning and decapping happens outside I use a cheap little Lee C press as a dedicated decapper and it lives on my weld bench under a cutoff plastic container as a cover. I just spray the whole thing down with REM oil after each use and cover it up. Even now my 4 junk yard dogs are laying at my feet and id like to keep it that way for a long time so im pretty careful with anything toxic. As far as cats on the load bench all of mine are so lazy they wont even pass the primers when I ask!

rugernut wellcome to the forum!

My reloading bench is in my office.

Both my dog and cat, as well as wife are around sometimes. I dont worry about it, life is too short.

The dog is a Great Pain, so can easily reach anywhere she wants. Whoops.. Dane.

Dogs yes. They behave themselves. Mellow old rescue Foxhound and a Belgian Malnois with some sense...some of those are off the hook :)

Cats? heck no. Zip around too much. Got 2 of those maniacs. One of them knocked my 505 scale off the bench one time. One time was enough...I do like the little b*****ds though but not while reloading.
