Duds in 22 WMR ammo?

I too was having problems with my 917vs in 17HMR and called the Marlin people and they told me that some of the earlier 917vs had a firing pin that was just a little too short and sent me a replacement pin. Now if I could find a step by step for breaking down the bolt and changing the pin i would feel a lot better.

When people buy .22 WMR they seem to be willing to pay for premium ammo, and most .22 WMR ammo appears to be higher quality than some of the .22 LR bulk pack.

I have had no misfires in my two .22 WMR rifles. I have recovered discarded misfired rounds at the range, cleaned them and successfully fired them (out of curiosity). I do try to make sure that the firing pins on my guns don't get gunked up and are free moving.

Have a Ruger convertible which would not fire reliably with 22wmr. I checked firing pin protrusion, headspace and rim counterbores and found the cylinder bored too deep for a good firing pin strike. Didn't want to send the gun back as Ruger requested so I looked on one of the auction sites and got one that worked.

Short story....first time I've ever had a problem with a rimfire and it wasn't the ammo.....and I shot some I had from the early sixties out of the new cylinder.

I have had duds in 22 magnum in my NAA mini revolver. I carry it barrel down in my pocket, and maybe that is the culprit, as it has happened with a couple different manufacturers.

I have had many duds in 22lr with Remington bulk packs.

Every dud has fired after turning it and striking it again.

I have been shooting .22 WMR in a Winchester 9422 carbine and a Colt Scout revolver since about 1970. All I have ever used is Super-X or CCI ammo.

I have never ever had a misfire.

IMO: It is not even in the same class for reliability as cheap .22RF bulk pack ammo.
I think if your gun is misfiring .22 WMR, you have a gun problem.
