I know this has been posted here once or twice in the past but I have searched it and can't seem to find it, so any way I was curious as to your caliber of choice in a revolver, and please do post why :)

.357 mag.

Verstility. Easy to shoot and usually very accurate, easy to load for, uses .38 special brass (easy to come by and inexpensive) for light loads, plenty of power for almost any use, lots of commerical bullet choices. It was the first "wonder cartridge" and perhaps remains the best overall, it has gotten lost in the continual hype over newer but less efficent cartridges.

so ny wy I was curious as
I think your "a" key is having a failure to feed issue... :)

45 Long Colt- You can soup it up hot, or you can plink at targets with bullets about as fast and big as a Japanese beetle thanks to western contest shooters. It's pretty easy to find and easy to reload.

I'd have to go with 22LR as my favorite caliber in a revolver. I do really like both 357 and 41 mag however. Just about everything is secondary to 22LR due to cost, frequency of practice, and accuracy.

45 Colt

45 Long Colt for me. I have a pistol (125th Anniv.) with an 8 inch barrel. Fun to shoot and packs a heck of a punch! BTW, is a 45 ACP a revolver??? It's in the survey????

Yep, 45acp,auto rim is a revolver and many thousands were made. Smith still makes them too.

I can't decide between .22 LR and .357mag.

I can't reload .357 as cheaply as I can shoot .22's but it is the next best thing.

I make powder puff loads in .357 and it is pretty cheap (about 8 or 9 cents)

But I can do .22's and shoot all day long for about 15 bucks.

I'm suprised more people aren't voting 45acp:scrutiny::what:

it just seemed like it was more popular then this, oh well no matter, though I am curious how a 45acp hlds up against a 357 when it comes to defensive applications?

I don't vote in most of the polls. I find it doesn't make sense to pick a caliber when alot of time it is the vehicle that launches it that makes it good. Untill recently 45acp didn't have a revolver that was carry size like 357 or 38special does. So most would never carry a big revolver in daily carry.

I kinda go for the golf bag approach. I have guns that are made for certian task and do well at those task. They are in different calibers for different task. I like all the calibers and each fits something to a "T" in the right gun.

Well, I read the survey results wrong, but it isn't surprizing
the .38 SPcl/>357 mag is leading

+1 for Just Jim in pointing out the .45 Auto RIm, it predates
.357 magnum by 15 years. Revolver Ocelot, the .45 ACP/AUto RIm
revo is a great Defensive option since most of them are heavy or
Medium frame revos and full moon clips make for the fastest reloads,
compare to the wide range of mostly medium some heavy and some light
or small frame guns, and the picture to compare to is a bit of a mixed
breed.

I voted for the .357 cause that's the one I enjoy shooting the most. Yes my .22 is much cheaper to shoot and the .460 makes more boom and is accurate at longer distances, but when it comes down to the amount of enjoyment I get from each shot, the .357 tops the list.

.38/.357 is my favorite because it is easy to control, is more fun to shoot than a .22(to me it is), and it isn't very expensive.

38/357mag for me,it can be found in
many different size/types of guns.Tons
of different loads which can be found
just about anywhere.

38/357 followed by the 45 Colt.

Like my others have said, the 38/357 is just incredibly versatile. The guns run the gamut from pocket size to Smith N frame and everything in between.

Reloaders can stretch that versatility even farther with loads ranging from 700 fps plinking loads in 38 Special to 1500 fps hunting loads in the 357.
