357, had this made just for it.

I have to say that .45ACP only became my favorite caliber after I began shooting REVOLVERS chambered for it. Don't get me wrong, I always loved shooting it in autoloaders, but at that point it was pretty much a tie between .45ACP and 9mm.

I'm one of those guys who went through a total revolver renaissance, one which was a direct result of discovering the joy of shooting .45ACP with fullmoon clips in an N-Frame.

Now, I'd have to say .357 magnum is a close second, but again, it's only since I began shooting it in 8-shot (S&W) performance center N-Frame revolvers with fullmoon clips.

22lr.
The only race is for second place...I carry a .357 but I haven't tried many other calibers.

Dido on the .22 Just a whole lot of fun for the money - .357 mag is number two.

Favourite Revolver Round

Ok, I'll be pretty retro here but I REALLY like the .38 spl. Its an accurate round, easy on the hands and when in the FBI Load configuration, should get the job done in a SD situation if you do your part. Its what I carry in my SP101.

But yeah, I carry the 145 gr Winchester Silvertip when my 686+ keeps me company.

I consider the .38 Special to be a variant of the .357 Magnum. I have been known to carry a Colt Detective Special on occasion. I also shoot a LOT of .38 Special in my .357s -- it's a highly versatile combination. A .38 Special in a .357 will do anything any lesser cartridge (like a .32 Mag) will do, and at the same time allow you to step up to real power when you need it.

My real deep down favorite is the 44 Special but I don't have much practical use for it so I shoot my second favorite, the 38 Special. My third favorite would be the 45 Colt. If I could only have one caliber it would be the 357 Mag because it's just so practical.

I love 'em all!!! Hard to pick a fave' but - if I may be facetious perhaps or just downright indulgent - I guess for its own special ''grin quotient'' this revo is perhaps my fave'..... satisfaction, guaranteed.!

Steel plate - 100 yds - PING ... :) :)

.45 LC in a wheelgun, and .45 auto those being my #1 fav, I also like .357/.38 .44 mag, 9mm .40S&W etc. =)

.41 Remington Magnum - in a Model 57/58

My suspicion is that the .44 Remington Magnum is just a tad too much for the N-frame (certainly pre enhanced I'd say others found it so too) - I have more trouble getting different loads in .44 magnum to shoot straight and close to the same point of aim - (when the calculated difference in drop is negligible I don't expect the groups to be wildly divergent but they too often are - even when each group is nice and small and round)

I find the .41 pleasant to shoot and easy to load for - adequately powerful for game and easy to hit gongs with at rifle ranges.

My bottom line, the .41 / N frame combination can't be beat - but I'd get a bigger bullet in one of the big single actions or the X-frame.

Variety of the spice of life. After I run through another 4 or 5 calibers in revolvers I'll let you know. So far I've tried .22 LR, 357/38, 45 ACP, 44 Mag, 454 Casull, 40 S&W, and I've having a 10mm clyinder made from the 40. I also want a Dan Wesson 445 Super Mag to put through the paces. When I find my favorite, I'll let you know. :D

nuther vote for .41 mag. just right in the middle and just right. pleasant and powerful. my #2 is .44 mag although i have several .357s an enjoy them. a couple of .357s are so sweet, they try to steal me away from .41s. i really enjoy magnums of all kinds, but for that "if only one" i have to vote .41

.357 magnum/38 special. I own nine revolvers and they're either .357 magnum or .38. I like that round(s). I like 45acp for semi-autos.

For handguns, the .357 Magnum has the perfect balance of power, controlability and versatility. It appears I'm not alone in this opinion.

The .45 ACP is great, but limited
The .22 LR is fine, but much much better in a rifle
The .44 Magnum is a great hunting round, but a bit much for civil matters, and requires a bit of a bulky package.

The .357 sits in the middle, truly the aurea mediocritas of handgun cartridges.

I prefer the .38 Special as well. That was the cailber of the first handgun I ever shot and carried and it is what I keep in my house. I load mine with the 135 grain Gold Dot from Speer.

My heart wants to say 41 mag for a ll the reasons mentioned by previous posters. But a head count in the safe reveals that my favorite caliber(by far) wheel gun is 357.
