RALEIGH, N.C. - Federal agents have raided an armory owned by security contractor Blackwater Worldwide.

The North Carolina-based company said the raid was part of an investigation into a deal that allowed a local sheriff's office to store high-powered assault rifles at the company's armory at its headquarters in Moyock.

Blackwater spokeswoman Anne Tyrrell says that investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives searched Blackwater's armory Tuesday.

She said she did not know whether the weapons in question were seized.

Tyrrell said ATF has known about the arrangement for a long time and that the company believes it is lawful and proper.

Both ATF and U.S. Attorney George Holding declined to comment.

I'd imagine thats in respose to this:

Blackwater using cache of AK-47s -Rifles given to sheriff in deal that skirts law

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the word "raid" is probably a bit strong as to what actually went down........

Considering Heller, perhaps the move on 922(o) just started. Blackwater is financed & motivated enough...
Excellent point!
They'd probably prefer to be put in a special status though. I wonder if the sheriff knew about this and would like to have a chat with the ATF.

+1. If it was a no-knock and Blackwater decided to repel boarders they'd be walking into a world of hurt.

Lots of funny quips, but BW found a neat chink in the legalese that more could explore. We should really be paying attention to how and why the ATF "raided" them, and what the result will be, instead of taking a smug satisfaction in it.

Like it or not, as a private entity they are nearly the same as me and you.

ya, this was probably as much a "raid" as when they arrest people for white collar crimes. a phone call and "when would be best for you?"

Yeah except for the whole having a few dozen Full Auto Rifles in my basement thing and the billions of dollars we could pass for brothers. Blackwater is not interested in biting the hand that provides it with the tastiest contracts from time to time. To think otherwise is folly. If they were interested in challenging the law they would have done so already.

Which is a scary thought. Any legislation would agree that Blackwater is not a militia, they are a private army. Thus, legislation written with Blackwater in mind would not apply to citizens.

If citizens can't have them, no one should. Police forces included.

Later,
Chrome...

It will be a long time, if ever, that we find out anything definitive. Using the recent Cav Arms escapade as an illustration, they (CA) don't know and the feds aren't telling.

The Sheriff needs to pull the "Highest law enforcement officer in the county" card, and tell the ATF to get the heck out of his county.

They need to take a hint from Bighorn County Wyoming Sheriff Dave Mattis.

From the tone of the article, it sounds as though the BATFE basically asked if they could look around and make sure there weren't any Phased Plasma Rifles (at least in the 40 watt range) lying around.

I read on the internet that they have some in the 25 watt range, just for evaluation and training purposes though.

Phased plasma rifles (no matter what wattage) are not firearms since they do not propel a projectile by use of an explosion.

Therefore they are not ATF, or GCA or NFA regulated so feel free to have as many as you want ;)

Remember the ending of the Lord of War, here I will Wikipedia it:

However, Yuri reveals to Valentine that the very reasons that Yuri should be incarcerated for are also the same reasons that he'll walk free; his existence is a "necessary evil", as the people he supplies are often "the enemies of your enemies" (enemies of the U.S.) He goes on saying that sometimes the U.S. Government needs a "freelancer" like himself to supply those that they'd rather not be seen supplying. Yuri then predicts that a high-ranking officer will come, congratulate Valentine, and then order him to free Yuri because of his necessity. Surely enough, a high-ranking officer does indeed come, and Yuri is released

Replace Yuri with Blackwater and Valentine with the probably soon to be unemployed agent.

Does that make Franz Kafka the new George Orwell?

I mean, seriously, the Cav Arms situation is the definition of Kafkaesque! It's almost as if "The Trial" was written about Cav Arms!

It doesn't always begin with a polite phone call. Several years and a few jobs back, the company I worked for was raided by the FBI over a white collar crime suspicion. There was no preliminary phone call asking when might be convenient. We were all hard (sic) at work around 09:30 when the receptionist came on the intercom and asked everyone to go to the library. When we got there, we were met by two men in suits ... who proceeded to tell us to sit down, and stay down.

They had about ten agents fanned out through the office, looking at (and through) "stuff." There were at all times two agents watching us in the library. If anyone needed to use the potty, just like junior high you had to ask permission. Instead of the lav pass, one of the two G-men accompanied the would-be potty user to the door of the men's or ladies' room, waited, and escorted the person back to the library.

Aguila,

You still have to admit your experience was far more tolerable than a flash
bang crashing through the front picture window at 4 am and then being
pulled out of bed and an MP5 jammed in your face.

I wonder who has done more damage to this country in the last 5 years:

The slum thug with the $5 crack rock/meth/joint or the wall street suit with
the $500 Montblanc pen?

Oh wait, neither. According to the media it's always the redneck in the trailer
with the semi-automatic pistol/rifle/shotgun. And, in 2009 the politicians will
say so [again], too ;)
