Since they raised the terror alert level a few days ago in NYC, NJ and DC, we all have seen news videos of various agency's anti-terror LEOs on duty.

I am not very good in identifying either longarms or sidearms, so I was wondering if any THR member can ID the firearms used by various anti-terror units (i.e. local, state, federal).

For example:

NYPD ?

Capitol Police ?

Newark Police ?

etc.

 :what:

At the capitol, patrolling the whitehouse grounds I saw plenty of MP5's. I've also seen various M4 carbines in the hands of police/SWAT. The picture below is another capitol cop with an HK G36 (5.56 nato, select fire rifle).

Around NYC, I see mostly M4 types with Aimpoint optics. I saw some MP5s a while ago, like around 9/11, but the past few years I have seen nothing but M4 types in the hands of officers, and M-16A2 in the hands of National Guardsmen.

Heck, I've seen National Guardsmen at Penn Station carrying 1911's.

Photos from the cover of "Newsday"

Long Island's "Newsday" featured pictures of anti-terrorist police officers on the cover of the newspaper on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

One image shows what the paper refers to as a "park police officer" wearing a black uniform that says SWAT on it outside the Statue of Liberty. The other shows an officer from NYPD's Hercules unit outside the stock exchange in New York City.

Please click on the attached image. I'd like to know what they're carrying (mounted gadgets and what not).

I remember seeing a picture of a police officer, federal agent, or something (I don't remember what city they were in, though seattle comes to mind for some reason) lugging around an M60 a short time after 9/11. That suprised me.

Guy at the Statue of Liberty has an HK53, pretty much a 5.56mm version of an MP5. Second guy has an M-4 with Aimpoint and Surefire (M500 I think?) foreend.

For once, its nice to see pictures of law enforcement officers with their fingers off the triggers while they are just hanging out.:p I remember going to college during the Waco stand-off and every AP picture of every LE was standing around B-Sing with their finger on their triggers. Most people around didn't catch it but us shooters in the group were like, "...uh, that's not good..."
