I have some of my non-gun friends pretty well trained. None of them are gun owners but quite a few have shot with me.

  • "Why did he rack his shotgun twice? He just wasted a shot."
  • "That's not very...tactical."
  • "That scope isn't wobbling...it's like it's on a...video camera tripod."
  • "That sure seemed like more than 30 rounds."
  • "It's not a clip, it's a MAGAZINE!!!"
  • When a guy hoses off an entire magazine: "There goes a few dollars."

I don't even have to make comments during movies anymore. :)

Do your friends and family make gun comments for you, or do they still smack you when you make them? :D

I get smacked.

OR glared at...like the last movie I saw, everyone just kinda looked at me expectantly.. I was like "What? " then realized they were waiting for me to nitpick the guns (I was bored to death at that point, so... )

My parents refuse to let me watch gun-containing movies with them, as they have grown tired of saying "Its just a movie!" whenever I start complaining about some mistake. Whats worse is they watch Law & Order religiously, talk about misleading gun information...

Actually, my kids have started to nitpick the shooting stuff... to my wife's great irritation. :D

They especially notice safety issues and inaccurate gunfire sounds.

The last episode of 10-8, Rico goes to help a store clerk who was shot. He kneels on the floor next to him, pistol in hand, and points it at the poor guy's neck and head for the entire scene. Both kids, at the same time, start razzing the TV.

I remember being in a comedy club once, and the comedian was making fun of a guy dressed in a stereotypical cowboy getup. Hat, tight jeans, big belt buckle, boots, and all.

Comedian: "I should probably stop making fun of this guy, don't they let people carry guns in Texas?"

Me: "Wooooooo yeah!"

Silence around my table as everybody looks at me.

Back when Star Wars first hit the theatres in - what, 1976? I remember the scene at the beginning when the stormtroopers were boarding - ray gun bolts were flying EVERYWHERE, and nobody was being hit.

I said "For crying out loud, my mother is a better shot than those guys."

The people in front turned around to look at me.

"Well, she is!" sez I.

Girlfriend poked me so I shut up.

With my crowd we're all making fun of movie gun stuff. You should'a heard the snickers at a showing of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly when at the end, we noticed Angeleyes was packing a cap n ball 1858 Remington in a belt full of cartridges! You could see the caps on the nipples..

I love my wife.

We were watching one of the National Lampoon's Vacation movies. The one where they are in Europe. The wife got kidnapped and the BG was pointing a gun at her. My wife squints and says,"Thats a P-38." I had tears. This is the woman the kicked very very hard when we saw the matrix and I saw .223 shells coming out of the scorpions.:D I think she is almost converted.

Aww, crap, that's one of my favorites and now I'm gonna notice it!:D

Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man: Mickey Rourke has a custom Ruger single action .454 Casull and Don Johnson has a Desert Eagle 44 Mag (IIRC). They get in a shootout with BGs at the Airplane graveyard and Don says to Mickey "that gun costs two bucks a shot. You just shot off 12 bucks and didn't hit *&^#. I shot about $3.50 and got two." Or sompin like that! :neener:

My friends and family tend to roll their eyes when I point those mistakes out.

My biggest pet peeve is that almost every hollywood 1911 has an SFS saftey.

My girlfriend makes even more comments than me! I usually make the comments about fake gun noises, cocking of hammers on hammerless guns, etc. while my girlfriend makes fun of the poor victims that were dumb enough to walk through life totally defenseless. She just goes off when we watch the first season of 24 where the wife and daughter are total idiots that are completely incapable of defending themselves. It cracks me up because I picture my girlfriend in the same situation as the character and when the bad guy jumps out and tries to grab her she knees him in the groin, draws, double tap to the chest, double tap to the head, and reloads in under 10 seconds. It makes me smile. :D

Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man:
Forget the guns! Wasn't that the one where the BG's are walking around with M-16's and bulletproof trenchcoats? Gotta get me one of those...

My wife now points out each time the characters in Alias (her favorite show) shoot to slide lock and then 1) cover the bad guy with empty gun, or 2) go on to continue the fight w/o reloading.

She also catches all those hammer cocking sounds that editors associate with glocks.

She's a keeper.

I can control myself, however, i do find myself appreciating movies where they do a good job with the guns, such as "Way of the Gun" THe only thing i could come up with was the 26 magazines they went through in the final gunfight...then again, GI 1911 mags are cheap.

did anyone see the simpsons this weekend? they were bear hunting.

the bear hunter and cletus the slack jawed yokel kept talking dramatically and racking the slide of their gun after each comment.

it was pretty funny, a new high for the simpsons, making fun of poor gun handling on TV.

they of course havne been perfect, like moe's double barreled pump action shotgun.

still its great TV

Moe's shotgun was a joke too.

The biggest one that always pisses me off are the scenes where the gun is 'unloaded' by removing the magazine only.

Generally, I just try to stay quiet. Even so, I get yelled at a lot for making gun-related comments.

Curiously, I absolutely loved the fight scenes in Kill Bill. I guess the fact that it was supposed to be overly campy made it ok for me.
