Glock 36 -- pros and cons?

The only Glock that can be bought with a restricted permit. Anyone own one? How does it fare for accuracy, cleaning, trigger pull and recoil?

Cleaning- Simple
Trigger Pull- Glock
Recoil- Totally subjective...not bad at all

As far as concealable .45's go it is a gem

If you prefer/can handle a fatter grip the G30 is nice....but my G36 has been a dream.

I had one. It was fine, I just decided I didn't want a Glock. Ergonomics were better for me than the 30 (which, if I'm understanding, you can't use). Accuracy was fine. Hot defensive loads made recoil less pleasant, but not at all unmanageable. The factory trigger wasn't bad, but I had a friend install a 3.5lb. connector which made it better.

Pearce makes a magazine extenstion which lengthens the frame grip surface and increases capacity by 1 round.

If you want a lightweight, simple, effective carry .45, and you're OK with a Glock, it's a fine choice.

I have a Glock 36 today, but it will be traded away tomorrow. There's nothing really wrong with it (the recoil spring did break on the 88th round fired, but that was just a bad part...could've happened to anyone at anytime with a factory recoil spring assembly. Glock promtly shipped me out a new one and it has worked perfectly since).

Trigger is like any Glock trigger, recoil is not too bad, cleaning is as easy as any Glock.

For me the pros are:
Relatively small
Slim for a Glock
Big .45 caliber round
Good accuracy

Cons for me:
Not quite small enough for all CCW situations
Low magazine capacity
Somewhat difficult to control (for me it would take regular practice to make accurate quick follow-up shots, though it's easy enough to control during slow fire.)

It's a good gun, but just didn't do it for me. I would rather have a Glock 19. Just my opinion!

I have one. It's the off duty counterpart to the dept issued Glock 21. It's accurate, small and easily concealable. I have had no problems with it at all. A lot of the other officers here prefer the Glock 30 because of the 10 round capacity. I am happy with the 36 for concealed carry.

As others have stated, it has the typical Glock trigger. I have no problem with recoil, but that's a subjective judgement.

i've handled them, and as far as size and grip fatness goes, you're probably better off with a colt defender or other officers model type gun. IMHO, of course.

I'm a big fan of 1911 pistols but I've also owned 4 Glocks and the 36 is the only Glock I still own. I like the .45acp round and I really like the small size, light weight, and accuracy of this pistol.

I added Novak night sights, Wolff steel recoil rod assembly & spring. My carry load is Gold Dot 185gr jhp's. Felt recoil (in my hands) is a little less then when using 230gr loads and when I do my part I get groups of 2 inches @25yds. Magazine capacity of 6 + 1 is fine with me. The glock trigger is a glock trigger, but having a gunsmith polish up the contact points of the trigger assemble helps a lot (or if your so inclined you could do it yourself).

I have a G36 with about two thousand rounds through it. (I don't carry it; I live in L.A.--for now.) I had a few jams with the gun early on but that's cleared up and I now consider it a very reliable weapon. I'd call it quite accurate, especially at typical self-defense distances. It's definitely, like all Glocks, easy to maintain. Recoil's snappier than heavier guns--remember, loaded, the G36 is only an ounce heavier than a loaded G26--but not at all bad. I think if you want a lightweight and reliable .45 this is the one to consider. I like 1911s but I'll take the G36 over any "micro" or "ultra" 1911 based on what I've heard and read.

I agree with you on the Glock 19 -- I'd love to get two of those and two in the 26, but I can't. The 36 is my only option and I'd love to get a .45 as I currently don't have one. Too bad Glock doesn't make a 9mm in an M version like Beretta does...

The Sig 220ST is on the list too but if I'm ever allowed to carry, this with the 26 would make a great choice. I'm not into the Glocks for looks, just a reliable gun that can stand up to holster wear. Sounds so far like a lot of people like the gun. Maybe if I can find it around, I'll shoot it before I buy to get a sense of how it handles. Thanks for the input people.

As others have said, pretty pleased with my 36. Have owned/shot all sizes of Glocks and just like the "fit" of 36 best, especially one-handed (with +1 magazine). I'm more accurate with 1911, but not nearly as inclined to ride it hard and put it up wet. Thank you Mr. Gaston, sir. Now, about a 9mm single-stack, have you looked closely at what is happening in the U.S. market with the little guns spelled K - A - H - R ... ?

For some reason it seems like lately I'm noticing a lot of people selling off their 36's. Not sure why that is but it makes me wonder. Is there something unsatisfactory about them in the long term to many people?

i have a g26 with n.s for trade for a basic g36.

i have a g30, and now ive been bitten by the .45caliber bug.

i think alot of folks get them thinking its a great gun because its a .45, and im sure it is, but its lighter than the g30/21 so it "kicks" more, once that is discovered folks usually trade it in for something less vogue and more in tune with what they really want, a g26 that is controllable.

I got my 36 over a year ago (2 years?), and really like it. We took it to the range, everybody had to shoot it. It was funny, everyone was expecting some massive super-duper recoil from that little plastic gun. After a shot or two, they started giggling like little schoolgirls. OK, that may be a bit of a stretch

Overall, I have found it to be just as boring as your basic Glock. It always shoots, keeps hitting the target, looks pretty much like new. I'll buy that for a dollar.

Did not care for it at all when 1st. came out.
Now am CCW'ing one with Ranger SXT 230 gr. +P.
Like its ergo in my large hands and shoot very well with it.
Got rid of a 30 long ago and still have and CCW a 21 in Winter.
Really pleased with mine overall.
