Glock finally has some real competition...

When I saw them at Scheels the other day, the first thing I noticed was the low price. IIRC it was about $350 or so. That's a helluva good price, but I still maintain that they're ugly :( What's with the green one? Drop it in the lawn and you're toast! :banghead:

No, it wasn't the price difference that all the sudden put it on the main stream radar... it was by solid life long backing from a well known industry name.

Do you think that Glock might try to answer the XD competition by making a gun with a grip safety? Not that I care if they do or not but just thinking... That's not the only difference between the two but seems to be something that a lot of people are saying they like.

Glock hasn't changed their design in response to any of their other competitors, so I can't imagine they'd do so in response to the XD... I'm sure I wouldn't buy a Glock with a grip safety, as I like them for the absence of un-necessary doo-dads.

GSB,

They look just fine to me... of course, I'm not looking for pretty in my tools, rather functionality, dependability and durability. Three things my Glocks continue to give me.

Perhaps you could try a bit of hot-pink spray paint to gussy one up to your own liking? :D :p :D

Maybe if they increase the price of Kel-Tecs by $200, they'll be taken seriously, too...

Wait a minute-- never mind. :uhoh: :uhoh:

Everyone go back to saying how much they suck--PLEASE!!! :D

I do enjoy all of the XD bashing based on price.:scrutiny:

Who on earth was HS when they first imported what is now known as the XD? Most never even heard of the HS2000.

The pace of refinement in the design is on a light speed basis compared to when HS was the importer. Among the various changes implemented with Springfield's marketing savvy providing the cash and the warranty service for the IM factory include: redesigned ejector, 5" and 4" inch models, some with porting. more calibers, a subcompact, a stainless slide available, two frame colors. armory koting available on slides, and an upcoming .45ACP model.

Not a bad trade, especially when the market is happily bearing the market price they sell for and not a penny more.

Competition for Glocks????

I always thought Glocks had plenty of competition. Don't get me wrong, I like Glock but there are plenty of other handguns out there.

Kahr
Beretta
Sig
H&K
S&W

Everyone thinks that Glock invented the polymer frame. That happened almost 30 years ago but it was H&K not Glock that first came up with a polymer framed firearm. Glock is an extremely wide gun. As far as the XD goes, I think it is just ugly. I like the lines of an H&K or a Beretta better.

Then again, this is just my opinion, and everyone has one.

Have fun with your new toy!

XD.....Great Gun

When I want to see a pretty gun I just open the safe and get my Colt XSE Enhanced Government Model Stainless Steel, of course it functions just great also. I was carrying it for one of my CCW guns but damn its so nice looking I didnt want to scratch it. My XD 357sig fills the bill all the way. Any one who thinks Glocks are good looking, Id hate to see your girfriend LOL. Anyway function and reliabilty are what counts the most. If your a 1911 type you will appreciate the grip safety on the XD. The Croations make excellent weapons and their police and military units carry the XD.
The factory is having problems keeping up with the orders from Springfield, they cant make them fast enough. I paid $440.00 out the door for my XD 4 inch service model. Very reasonable in my book.

As far as the price is concerned...look harder. I have seen several XDs here for ~$375. $75 more for Springfield's Lifetime Warranty isn't too bad, IMO.

George Hill,

When the XD exists in numbers equal to half of Glocks, and there haven't been any case failures... I'll be impressed. Until then...

My XD-9 wasn't even the equal of any of my 9mm Glocks.... perhaps yours is better.

9x19:

I agree that the Glock kb! thing is way overblown (pun intended) but I challenge you to examine spent brass from and XD-40 vs. any of the Glocks chambered for .40 S&W. I was SHOCKED to see how well the XD brass looked relative to the spent Glock casings. The head support is MUCH better on the XD line of pistols. I can only surmise that this may, on a per capita basis, lead to fewer Kb's! with the XD.

Don't take my word for it LOOK and COMPARE the spent casings for an XD vs. Glock, especially in .40 cal. You'll see what I am talking about. It can only improve the factor of safety to have chamber support like that found in the XD line of pistols.

poof...

euclid,

While I do own Glocks in 9mm, .357Sig, .40S&W, 10mm and .45... I do not own an XD-40, nor have any plans to buy one.

If one of my shooting buddies happens to buy the XD-40, I will make the comparison you ask, until then... "poof..."
