Anybody have one?

Thoughts/experience?

Looking at either a Phoenix 2 or Ridgeback to drop a .223 700 XCR Compact tactical in. I get a 20% discount so I might as well jump on one now.

I have several and have been happy with them. For a while they supplied the stocks for Bergara rifles and that’s how I ran into them. My latest is the Phoenix 2 and I like the design.

Thanks guys!

I've got a Phoenix 2 in "Rim Country Camo" on the way. I did see that they made the Ridgeback stock for Bergara, they actually have one (Rem SA) on clearance now for $503.10 (free shipping) in Bergara camo.

Almost bought it, but wanted a little les weight for this one.

If those are the same stocks Bergara puts on their rifles, then I'd pass. Especially at those prices. I've never been to their website and didn't know how much they were selling for before now.

If they were about around $300-$400 I might be interested. They look good, they feel good, but they are way too heavy for a synthetic stocked hunting rifle and their construction isn't as rugged as the B&C, or HS Precision stocks. Not in the same league as McMillan, Brown Precision or Bansner.

They are more expensive than B&C or HS Precision and getting pretty darn close to McMillan or Brown Precision. Bansner's are about the same price and much lighter. All of the above are made of laid up fiberglass or Kevlar cloth.

Grayboe doesn't say, but the Bergara stocks I've seen and owned are simply injection molded plastic stocks just like the plastic factory stocks that sell for $50. Granted they do a better job of finishing them. But as far as I can tell the construction is the same.

For about the same money I like this better, especially for a lightweight hunting rifle.

If I wanted a heavy stock for a tactical/target/varmint rifle I'd save $200 and buy B&C.

“Rim Country Camo?” I can’t find that on their site
I couldn't find it either, so I just went off the picture:

Looks like a slightly darker desert camo.

From what I can gather, they only make or made 2 models of stocks for Bergaras and it was the Ridgeback and the Premier Approach:

I've got a B14R, and it's an in house stock injection molded as far as I can tell, their spec sheets tell who's stocks they use. Construction of the Grayboe's isn't the same.

This isn't going to be a lightweight rig, for that I go with Manners, they're right down the road and I own 3 of them, all on "lightish" builds. They're also who my smith prefers to use, as do the GAP folks I spoke with a week or so ago. The rifle currently wears a B&C that I'll probably be putting up for sale shortly.

I've owned 3 HS stocks and they're solid, but when you try to get the adjustability you can get with either the Ridgeback or Phoenix, the cost is about the same, and when it comes to the Phoenix you add significant weight. The HS Pro Series A5 Tactical with adjustable LOP and Cheekpiece starts at $575 or so and weighs 63 ounces. The Phoenix weighs approx 39 ounces.

From what I've read, the Grayboe's have some pretty good reviews, so I'm willing to assume some risk.

They made a third for Bergara. The Highlander uses a more traditional stock. I forget what it’s called, but they don’t make it anymore. I’ve got a pretty rare Highlander, 280AI. I just put a Traverse stock on it trying to get a long action magazine set up. Jury is still out.

Yup missed that one. Also just found out that the Ridgeback is an option for Vudu along with Manners and a couple others. The Phoenix arrived yesterday, looks like the picture.. now just waiting on bottom metal and a couple mags. Grayboe makes an Arca rail for it that replaces the MLOK rails and sits flush with the end of the stock. I might still go with an Area 419 and get one that extends slightly as I've gotten used to having my bipod out a ways.
